    Tunnel in middle of soap

Thanks for the replies. Are they safe to use as is or do they have to be rebatched? And for rebatching do you just chop it up very small/grate it and then heat until melted then pour into the mold, or are there additional steps? First time doing a rebatch.

    Tunnel in middle of soap

Okay I made a batch of soap last afternoon(05/11/2015) and like I normally do with my soap(with a high solid oil %) I cut it just before a full day has passed. The first two slices went fine then on the 3 slice I noticed that there were some small bubble shaped holes in it with a tunnel in the...

    Quick Mead Soap Question

I recently made a soap with mead and for some reason it smells like licorice. I don't mind the smell I'm just wondering if anybody knows why it smells like licorice. The recipe is: 500 g coconut oil 190 ml unspiced JOAM(Joe's Ancient Orange Mead) variant 73 g NaOH The ingredients in the JOAM...

Needing advice on how to make a Honey Mead soap

Sorry for bumping a couple year old thread but I'd like to mention that mead isn't technically a wine as wines are made with fruit(other than apple) and mead is made with honey. Just like sake is actually a beer as it is fermented from rice which is a grain. It is a completely different beast...

    Additive Question

The scora/cinder is all over the place where I live, pretty much everybody(in the area) uses it for some reason(even decoration). It is still in chunks but should be pretty easy to get it down to a powder with a hammer and morter & pestle. I think that I might just make a very small test batch...

    Additive Question

Would it be possible to use cinder stone(aka scoria) as an abrasive similar to pumice? If so what would be a decent quantity for a 500 gram batch. If not why?

What is happening to my soap?

Thanks all for the replies. The gellied soap doesn't bother me, I was just wondering what it was and what caused it. Now I know. And I'll my next batch will be mostly coconut oil, with a moderatly high SF level.

What is happening to my soap?

When I use my soap for my hands and leave it on a soap dish to drain and dry after use the part of the soap that is in contact with the dish turn into a gel-ish substance the consistency of a pomade and the stickiness of sap, but when I leave it in the shower on a wire hanger for soaps under the...

Coconut, Canola, Olive oil soap question

I used a butter knife to release the soap from mold turned it out and cut it. It is still a little bit soft but when I tried the smallest bar it had a nice lather(similar to commercial bar soap) and was very moisturizing. This is probably a recipe I'll use again albeit an upsized recipe.

Coconut, Canola, Olive oil soap question

I was just wondering about how long it should take for a Canola(50%), Coconut[organic](20%), Olive(30%) soap to solidify enough to cut. It has been just over 24 hours and it is still soft enough that I can't unmold it. When I try to unmold it, it starts to crack leaving some on the sides of the...

    Volume Recipe Help

Thanks for the advice. I made a batch of the soap from that recipe yesterday, again cuz I was impatient. It came out just a little bit harder than playdoh and I'm wondering is that normal for 100% lard soap or is it soft because of being fat heavy? If anybody knows? I know I should have waited...

    Volume Recipe Help

Does anybody know of any recipe using volume instead of weight as I don't have the money for a scale, but would like to start making CP soap. I saw one for a bacon soap. Does that seem like it would work or does it seem lye/fat heavy. I'll be investing in a scale as soon as I can but that might...
