    Finally completed my carrot soaps!

Here's a picture of the molds. I don't recall where they came from. I'm thinking maybe Temu? But can't be sure. They make a 1 pound loaf.

    Finally completed my carrot soaps!

Well my garden isn't just for eating. I am running low on soap and I have an abundance of canned carrots. So carrot soap from the garden it is! I used three different kinds of carrots for 3 batches at 2 pounds each. I used a recipe from Jan Berry the Nerdy Farmwife! I used a yellow Gold Nugget...

    Calendula lotion bars!

It's kind of a theme with me. I like to use Alaska grown or in particular something I've grown or harvested whenever I can. I make a blueberry soap (soap Queen recipe) that has real Alaska blueberries in it. Another favorite is my medicinal salves made with local plants. I think we should all...

    Alaskan lip balms!

Well it's that time of year again where we're all using lip balm! So of course what am I to do but make another batch of my Alaska grown lip balm. This lip balm is made using sweet almond oil infused with Alaskan rose petals and Alaskan fireweed flowers. It also contains Alaska grown beeswax...

    Calendula lotion bars!

Its been awhile since I posted in the group but I figured this was worth posting! Gifts from the garden! Last spring I decided to start some calendula flowers when I started my garden veggies. I talked to my mom and she agreed to grow the flowers in one of her flower beds. And today I turned...

anyone ever use Black Nebula carrot puree in a soap?

Sorry but there's no raw carrots left. Well not the black nebula anyway. I do have some Bolero, Hercules, and sugar snack carrots left but they're just a typical orange carrot. I haven't yet played around with hot process soap. So most likely I'm just going to start with making a cold processed...

anyone ever use Black Nebula carrot puree in a soap?

I'm out of town for work right now. But when I get home I'll do some testing with the lie and the carrot water. And I'll certainly post up my finished results good or bad!

anyone ever use Black Nebula carrot puree in a soap?

I didn't think it would turn the soap completely black but I was thinking I might end up with a nice purple color. The description of this carrot from the baker Creek website says that it has been used as a dye. So fingers crossed it turns out looking good. I do plan to use the water from the...

DO NOT drop your red mica!!!

Sorry to hear this though I never did find it funny myself. Probably because I've done something similar more than once. The one I dreaded the most was the snowflake glitter Micah from Brambleberry. Apparently they didn't think putting a piece of tape on the lid was as good an idea as I did. I...

anyone ever use Black Nebula carrot puree in a soap?

The flavor of these carrots is not that great. My regular carrots are on 9 to a 9.5 out of 10. Alaska grown carrots are always super sweet and supposedly tested sweeter than carrots grown in any other state. But these carrots were more like a 7.5. Not quite as sweet and more earthy in favor. I'm...

anyone ever use Black Nebula carrot puree in a soap?

I know I haven't been on here in a while but I have a new idea for a soap. I canned up my experimental carrots that I grew this year. One of my experimental carrots is the black nebula carrot that I got seeds for from Baker Creek heirloom seed company. These carrots are a very dark purple/black...

    I've bought a house!

I have good homeowners insurance through State farm and it would cover me in the event of a disaster or major repairs. It's also requirement of my mortgage from the bank to protect their investment. But it doesn't cover everything. Like when my stepson broke the front door frame and I had to...

    I've bought a house!

Oh, I know all about those insurances! When I bought my house here in Alaska the previous owners had died. Their oldest daughter was selling the house. So nobody knew much about the house or it's potential issues. And nobody had lived in it for a year and a half or two years. Our realtor...

    Instant Pot Infusion Experiment

Why would you want to do that? Using a jar is much cleaner and easier. Plus it's in a jar ready for filtering and storage. Otherwise your going to have to pour it out into a jar anyway and then your cleaning oil and plant matter out of your Instapot. No thanks on that!

    Instant Pot Infusion Experiment

I usually just use jars in my crock pot. Put my jars of herbs and oil in the Crock-Pot then fill with water about halfway up the jars. It's usually done in about 4 hours but I usually just turn it on before bed and turn it off in the morning. It's been working well for me for a long time...

    I've bought a house!

Congratulations! Home ownership definitely has its advantages. I put in some gardens on my property a chicken coop etc. So nice to be able to do what I want and know that it adds value to the property and I didn't have to ask anyone for permission. Just remember you need to have a small...

Let's play Good News / Bad News

The bad news is half the new chicks I ordered arrived at the feed store dead. They lost 95 of a hundred easter eggers and can't get any more of this breed. Good news is our other local feed store is getting some in this Friday and had some unspoken for that I signed up for Hopefully these and...

    Post your Gripe

Did you ever find the lids you needed? My local Alaska Walmart just got in a bunch of canning supplies. Canning is a way of life here and extremely common especially for our salmon and wild berry products. Anyway I just bought two cases of Kerr wide mouth lids to supplement my supplies I'll need...

    Stevia in Lip Balm?

just for the record let me throw this out there and that is that I don't drink alcohol and the actual smell of beer turns my stomach so I certainly would not want to use hops myself. But it's your lip balm, not mine and since you asked I'll explain things. First I had to do some investigating...
