    Cure time?

I have never sold any uncut soap and probably won't. Half the fun of soaping for me is the process and unmolding and cutting the soap is what I like to do best.

    Tallow in soap

My husband tried to render beef tallow for my soap and it is an experience we don't want to try again. I unmolded at 24 hours as I always do with the first batch and waited a few hours longer for the second batch. I have since gone back to my old standby recipe and it is not sticky at all.

    Tallow in soap

After reading some posts about GV shortening (beef tallow & ?) I tried substituting in for the lard in my recipe. I ran it though Soapcalc and it looked fine but the soap was very sticky and hard to un-mold. It cured out ok but is ugly due to all the stickiness. Anyone else had similar problems...

    Cure time?

I wait three weeks but truthfully my soap is very dry by 2 weeks. I sell my soap so I wait the three weeks before I sell any or if a large order to one individual I may tell them it needs to dry longer and they don't mind the wait.

    Goat Milk/Lye Mixture Clumpy

I add my lye verrrrrrrrrrrrrry slowly to my frozen goat milk; about 2 tbs. at a time and have not had any problems with clumping. It always completely dissolves and I haven't strained it before adding to the oils.

    Goat milk soap not wrapped

I am going to post this picture here of two bars for comparison to demonstrate the difference it made in the color of the soap. I used the identical recipe and the one not covered came out so nice and light. This picture really doesn't do the color justice as it is actually much lighter.

    Goat milk soap not wrapped

24 hours later I have the most beautiful bars of soap I have ever made. It is a beautiful pale cream shade and set up very well. It did go through the gel phase without a cover.

    Goat milk soap not wrapped

I have been making goat milk soap for a few months and it always turns out well but dark in color and lately I have had a few "small" volcanoes. I decided not to wrap it in towels this time and am just letting it sit out. Will it still go through the gel phase?

Does lye soap help skin irritations?

I make goat milk soap and have two children using it with great results that were never able to wash with any soap previously. They bathed with baby shampoo but are able to use the goat milk soap without any problems. It has also helped people with eczema and psoriasis. I do not make any claims...

    When does soap expire?

Sunny could you please share your olive and coconut oil recipe?

    When does soap expire?

lard I have been using the basic recipe with olive oil, coconut oil, & lard. Will the lard become rancid after awhile? I love the soap as does everyone that has used it.

    baby oil

I am soooooo glad I asked the question about mineral oil here. Yes I did confuse mineral oil with castor oil. I found the original article I read and it was castor oil that made rich lather. Thanks to all!

    baby oil

I read that using mineral oil in soap made a richer lather. Baby oil is mineral oil with fragrance added so I wondered if you could add a small amount to your other oils.

Re: Share your favorite soap recipe Thanks for your answers; not have to find time during this busy Christmas season to make soap. :)

    Share your favourite recipe

Re: Share your favorite soap recipe I make goat milk soap and would like to add oatmeal and honey. Is it okay to add it to my regular recipe? Another question is about cutting recipes in half. Mine makes 24 bars and I would like to make half that.

    Color changing soap?

I may have to do that myself considering the cost of essential oils. Most of the batches i have been a beautiful caramel color.

    Color changing soap?

Thanks for all the input. Guess Iwill just call it "chocolate" soap and mark it up to experience. Does the same thing happen when using Essential oils?

    Color changing soap?

I used a FO called butter cream. I kept my lye/goat milk mixture cool in an ice bath and it never exceeded 115 degrees.

    Color changing soap?

Something similar happened to be with my last batch of goat milk soap. I used my usual recipe and was so proud when it turned out a very light cream color. After we unmolded it and put it on racks to dry it began to darken. After a week it is now the color of milk chocolate. Any ideas of what...
