Lessons not learned. What do you do when your batter seizes? do some FO's react poorly with ground oatmeal?

@melinda48 , The lyric " i swear there ain't no heaven and i pray there ain't no hell" is running in my mind on a loop... I'm not convinced glass will explode in the micro (with ordinary boiling and use) but, since I have plenty of coffee stir sticks that I really don't use to stir coffee...

    Issue with Soap Seizing

@KimLynn , although I got inspired by your M&P topped CP soap as a way to doll up my meatloaf bars, your warning is well taken. I've been buried at work and haven't had time to soap or to even peak at that soap for a couple weeks- which feels like a light year. But, the passage of time has...

Lessons not learned. What do you do when your batter seizes? do some FO's react poorly with ground oatmeal?

I read through the SNOPES. I thought that it seemed to say that it is the WATER that can superheat and explode, not that the glass itself explodes. I have had glass crack when subjected to a very quick change in temperature, I had my very favorite and beautiful glass pitcher crack when I took...

Cleaning up colorants after making soap

I mainly make only 1 pound batches with only 3 times so far 2 pound batches so I mix colorants in stainless steel tablespoon measuring spoons OR glass shot glasses (I bought at thrift store for this specific purpose. ) I initially used at least a couple plastic tablespoons . That did not work...

    Issue with Soap Seizing

@KimLynn The last batch of soap I made seized really badly, I dumped over a cup of boiling hot water into it ( a 1000 gram batch- which was big for me) so that I could chop it up and soften it to and stir it a little to get into a mold. It was pretty unsightly but I unmolded it. It was firm...

    White spots on cp soap

@AliOop , what you say makes sense. I haven't made soap since 9/6 and I haven't used T.D. since late July. I think I am still experiencing PTSD from my T.D. struggles up to that time. So, that's probably why I see white spots and think "Oh no, TD!!" If you meet me for lunch, don't wear a...

    White spots on cp soap

@Keke, did you use a colorant, like T.D.? If so, they could be spots of T.D. that didn't disburse very well?

    Soap too soft

@Ekuzo-what great information!!! Thank you for the discussion!! I have to say, at this point in time, I'm definitely kind of a chicken so I probably won't be trying this 100% coconut recipe anytime soon. I wish someone really ambitious could invent a soap calc that gives us the full skinny...

SMF September 2024 Challenge - Feathered Mantra Swirl

@justsomeguy , I love that soap! It looks like a small bonfire in the corner there. I might have to try to copy your colors. I've been trying to think of some gender neutral colors and designs what don't involve browns and greens. I think I've made enough soaps with browns and greens...

    Soap too soft

@Ekuzo , I just ran that through soap calc (with 20% SF). That is some hard, seriously bubbly soap!! The weird thing is, for such a hard bar, its longevity value is pretty low. I know everyone says "don't treat soapcalc like its the bible" (or whatever your truism might be...) I learned...

    Soap too soft

@ewhitake , aw, no! don't scrap your soap! As Ekuzo says, you can grate it for confetti, OR just let it sit there for several months. Unless it zaps or smells bad, what's the worst that can happen if you use it? It'll disappear fast? It takes me so long to make a pound of soap, it would be...

SMF September 2024 Challenge - Feathered Mantra Swirl

@justsomeguy , I'm sorry your last batch didn't work out. If I had made soap as nice as your first batch, I would have waited to see if I liked the next one better! I like your confidence and work ethic, too! Maybe just submit what you thought was a failure? After all that work, it seems...

Lessons not learned. What do you do when your batter seizes? do some FO's react poorly with ground oatmeal?

@melinda48, since i frequently boil tea water in the microwave oven, I thought I'd search the internet to see if there is a consensus on the safety of doing this. There are some differing opinions but generally, I don't think its the glass that might burst, it's the WATER itself that might...
