    One of THOSE Batches

Maybe not a butterfly swirl, but they look awesome for Berry Vanilla bars! Colors are wonderful!

    HP, honey, & flaking

I have this strange thing going on when I HP with honey ... when I go to pour it into the mold after the cook, I notice a 'flaky-ness' or almost crumbly-ness to the texture. It's still there when I unmold and slice. If I leave it alone, it seems to be fine ... it gets hard as it ages and doesn't...

    tallow vs. lard

OK ... very interesting ... for those of you who use lard, I noticed most of you either render it yourself, or have someone close to you who does it. Does anyone like the results from store purchased lard? The weird thing is that the only lard I can find in the store says it's been partially...

    Recommended companies for EO

1- Liberty Naturals 2- New Directions 3- Camden Grey Those are my 3 go-to EO suppliers (I don't do FO's so I'm no help there). I really like New Directions, but Liberty Naturals just has an awesome selection. As for Camden Grey ... I've never had a problem with them, but have heard some...

    tallow vs. lard

I read the other post about using these two together, and some were saying that they like lard better than tallow. I personally seem to like tallow better - but maybe it's just because I would rather work with tallow than with lard. So - which do you like better ... and more importantly, why?

100% Coconut Oil soap - drying?

xraygrl - one of my sons had a problem with itching after showering and he was saying it was the soap (yes, it was the coconut he was using at the time). The weird thing, though, was that it wasn't consistent. Sometimes it'd be worse than others (same soap). He did some research on his own and...

100% Coconut Oil soap - drying?

Thanks for your input, fuzz ... not having dry skin, or knowing anyone who would classify theirs as 'very dry', I have a hard time judging things like this. :) I know! I know! ha! That's why I'd figure I'd ask ... it's 'supposed' to be very drying! As for the coconut & salt ... it must be...

    Shampoo Bar - Thanks Lindy!!

I would love to be able to use a shampoo bar, but we have very hard water, and when you combine that with my oily hair ... it doesn't work, vinegar rinse or no. It works OK for my husband here at home (dry-ish hair & skin) and he says it works great when he's back east in the big city and using...

100% Coconut Oil soap - drying?

I've made 100% coconut oil soap for years with no more than 8% SF, and never had a problem with it being drying to my skin. Admittedly, I do have oily skin - however my husband has dry skin, and when he uses the all-coconut, he doesn't mention that it's drying to him at all, either. I also have...

    Tips on sea salt please.

Yeah - when it comes to salt bars I've learned not to label them until just before a show, etc. I've had to replace too many labels that have gotten wet, then dried and looked unappealing. It's very humid in my area also - all summer long. I also wrap my salt bars in tissue paper to store them...

    Watermelon Soap

Thanks! I kind of had the idea after I posted that maybe I should go with something that tastes good with watermelon. Unfortunately, I'm not a big watermelon fan so I'm no good with what goes with it! :problem: I did look up some watermelon recipes online and noticed a lot of watermelon salsas...

    Watermelon Soap

OK - I juiced some watermelon (so it has no pulp) and I know it's good for your skin, so ... being summertime, I'm thinking a watermelon soap. The catch ... I don't use FO's - just EO's, and for the life of me, I just can't seem to come up with an idea for EO scented 'watermelon' soap...

    rebatching - too much liquid

A good reason to have individual molds! But alas, I only have log molds.

    rebatching - too much liquid

OK - so I tried to rescue my goat milk honey failure soap. (See other thread.) Of the 3 options I gave myself this morning, I decided to rebatch. Silly me, got my T. & oz. mixed up and I added WAY too much liquid. The good thing is that it's smooth. The bad thing is that it's too soft...

    milk soap musings ... long

That's true. Freeze milk and it turns yellow. When it's thawed, the cream never goes back into the milk properly (at least with cow milk). That's why it's not real feasible to freeze your excess milk for the 'lean' times. It's just not the same after freezing it.

I read the title and thought it meant to show your soap mess. Now that I could'a done! ;) Ha!

    milk soap musings ... long

Yep - next time more liquid for sure. The whole batch is a crumbled mess - took it out of the mold this morning and it's all crumbles - looks like graham cracker crumbs! :problem: Seven - yep ... methinks 50/50 is the way to go from now on. If I did CP, then maybe not but with HP ... I think...
