    Heating oils for gel phase

I want to try gelling my next batch of soap, since I usually soap at room temperature at no higher than 85 degrees fahrenheit and I want to expand on my practice and technique. I have a stupid question - how would I go about heating my oils while making sure I don't alter their integrity? Would...

First time using melt and pour and I had a question about setting

I'm making melt and pour embeds for a CP soap, and I'm using a tiny star mold (specifically this one). The mold's circumference is about the size of a penny's, if not slightly smaller. I'm making multiple bars in different colors but I only have one mold; can I put it in the freezer to set...

    Cotton candy swirl 🍭

I do, cut it last night. Bear in mind - the inside is nowhere near as nice haha. I didn't do much for the inside since this was just to test out the fragrance, and the fact that the top came out so pretty was sort of a happy accident!

    Cotton candy swirl 🍭

Thank you! The inside is not as exciting, just pink and white with a half hearted attempted swirl haha. We'll see how it turns out in another day or two!

I seem to hit thick trace very quickly every time

Thank you to all of you who are helping me troubleshoot this! For the first recipe I listed, my lye/water measurements are 3.47 oz lye and 9.6 oz water; for the second recipe it's 5.86 oz lye and 15.58 oz water. As I stated before I split my water 50/50 with ice, and I try to be very precise...

I seem to hit thick trace very quickly every time

Of course! You're absolutely right. I shouldn't have posted on assumption. I can update in a few hours with precise numbers 😊

I seem to hit thick trace very quickly every time

Thank you for the advice! When I say "no water discount", I mean I use the full amount of water as suggested by SoapCalc; that is how I understand it but perhaps I'm not using my terms correctly, if so please let me know! My precise water/lye measurements, I can update that in a little bit when...

    Cotton candy swirl 🍭

I wanted to try out Brambleberry's "Cotton Candy" FO, so I made a pink and white swirl with some gold on top. It smells so good, I can't wait to cut into it!

I seem to hit thick trace very quickly every time

It could very well be my stick blender! I use a Cuisinart with a 200 watt motor, I will try shorter blending times I go back and forth between regular and pomace olive oil, whichever I have at the time. I don't find a difference when I use either or, so I'm starting to think I'm just blending...

I seem to hit thick trace very quickly every time

So the recipe I've been using is pretty simple: 18.75 oz olive oil, 5 oz coconut oil and 1.5 oz castor oil. Recently though I've been trying out: 12 oz olive oil, 12 oz coconut oil, 12 oz palm oil and 4 oz shea butter with a teaspoon or two of sodium lactate added; all batches with appropriate...

I seem to hit thick trace very quickly every time

So I'm pretty new to CP soapmaking, a few batches in, and I noticed that every batch I've made so far seems to reach thick trace relatively quickly. Like, when I get to the point where I'm pouring in the mold my batter is pudding-like. I know false trace is a thing, but I don't believe that's...

    Chocolate chip pancakes!

The other day my friend said she wished she had a chocolate chip pancake scented soap, so, inspired, I searched around for a choco chip FO and tried my hand at making a batch 😊 I used the "Fluffy Chocolate Chip Pancakes" FO from Just Scent, a little leftover "King Tut Gold" mica from Mad Micas...

What's this texture on the top of this batch?

@linne1gi thank you for the tip! I am working on tweaking my recipe to reduce my water content

What's this texture on the top of this batch?

@linne1gi my recipe does have a lot of water, but I don't think it overheated as I soaped at room temperature and am keeping the mold in a pretty cool place at all times (I could be wrong though!). I tested a bar out today while washing my hands and the texture disappeared after getting wet so I...

What's this texture on the top of this batch?

@gardengeek thank you very much! Hopefully the smoothness will last as it cures @KiwiMoose thank you very much as well 😊

What's this texture on the top of this batch?

@dibbles interesting, I always spray my tops w alcohol and have never had an issue. I'll keep it in mind for next time!

What's this texture on the top of this batch?

@AliOop thank you so much! I'm surprised at how smooth they came out myself haha. Thank you for the tip too, I shall lay them out on some paper 😊 @dibbles I did, but I'm thinking I didn't spritz enough or as often as I should have
