SM3 -- difficulty assessing initial inventory and calculator questions

Okay I'm not going to lie, it is a pain in the butt to do it however you only have to do it this way once. One of the important and biggest pains is finding the specific gravity of all or most of your products. The internet is a god-sent here. To try to answer your question, you can make up...

Mike's Fragrances Morphing (In A Good Way)

I have found this as well, even more interesting I've found his fragrances change in lotion as well. I'm not sure if it has to do with exposer to air, or what but I've learned not to judge his fragrances from the bottle.

Is Camden Grey as difficult as their FAQs would imply?

Well I can't say I take any offense from their FAQ's although if it were my company I don't think I would have chosen their words. It sounds to me like they are venting a bit about some of the rather more difficult customers they have had. Let's face it. If you can not spell lavender...

Why does bar soap require cure while liquid doesn't?

Curing does a few things, a bar becomes harder, the soap becomes more mild and in many cases lather is enhanced. All of these things are very important to bar soap, but are less important in a liquid soap mainly because of the water added to it. The first I think is obvious, liquid soap is...

    Pine Tar Salt Bar

I personally would not try it but only because I believe it would seize. I make pine tar soap and I make salt bars, both are very thick and set up fast, about as fast as I'm willing to work with. Combined I believe would be asking for soap on a stick. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to hear...

    Another one... Opinions?

Rice bran oil and olive oil have very similar qualities. I would pick one and eliminate the other.

    76 vs 92 CO ... what's the real difference?

I use both interchangeably , no difference in performance. The coconut you are using from the grocery is 76 degree. However as I said there is no discernible difference.

Scenting soap without EO/FO? Can it be done?

Ah, correct and I stand corrected. Although they are not fragrances I would want all my soaps to smell like they do stick like glue!

Scenting soap without EO/FO? Can it be done?

I've never had any soap without EO or FO keep its scent longer than 1 week, and most don't even make it past 1 day. Scented oils are IMHO necessary for scented soap.

    The 12 step FO program

I have no problem with FO. I think every cabinet should have 20-30 bottles of it. ;-)

    WSP fragrance samples, thoughts?

I have love spell, frankincense and myrrh, and Apple jack and peel. I like them all, but Apple jack is my favorite. Frankincense and myrrh can rice - be careful with it and watch it carefully, blend very well and if it starts to rice wait for it to heat up and then blend again. I would not try...

    Beginners tips

Patience. M&P takes patience to create great designs. Learning to add one color - clean up the edges then pouring the next can be frustrating but the results can be marvelous.

Bath Bomb Video - Feedback Requested

It fizzes fine. I do think you may want to switch to a lake colorant. I'm assuming you are using mica since it is not dissolving in the water. With the oil in your bombs this could lead to it combining with the oil and leaving an oily colored ring around the tub. Other than that I think it...

    Smooth tops and edges

For perfectly smooth, you pour as evenly as possible but it is after the cut that you can make a bar perfectly smooth through planing, beveling and a water bath to smooth the surface and give it that shiney polished look.

    How much to bring/make?

Jolando, Carolyn is correct when she says it is very competitive. Her wording is actually very good. I'm impressed. You see we walk a very fine line selling on the internet, the FDA is very explicit with what can be said and yet we need to convey to the public, who do not understand the science...

When do you trim your soaps?

This is the one I use, and I love it. It is totally ***** prove (which I appreciate), needs no blades or sharpening, can bevel or plane or do both at once. Cleaning is a breeze since it can be totally submerged...

    Wall pour

So what is a wall pour? Searched youtube, even looked through the link but I don't see anything even close. Anyone?

    Wood ash lye and soaping?

If you want to try right away, go to true value hardware. In the plumbing section with drain cleaners they sell 100% lye. Make sure it says it is only lye. (Technically it is not 100%, but you just want to make sure it has no other ingredients. ). I believe 1 lb is around $4, so not the cheapest...

    Wood ash lye and soaping?

You can not make bar soap with wood ash lye. What you will get is a creamy soap that you would need to keep in a bucket or bowl and scoop out. Bar soap is made with sodium hydroxide, I believe what you have is a different hydroxide. I'm not sure if it is potassium hydroxide ( used to make...
