    Any advice?

I don't understand what ratio you want to use. 4 parts what to 1 part what? To figure out the lye and water amounts you only need to know what your oils are.

    Hello

Welcome to the forum. Continue asking questions while you learn and 6 months down the line I'm sure you will not just be making great soap but you'll be helping to answer questions as well. When you do make your first soap, take pictures to share here. We all love soap pictures!

    Any advice?

I am sure that since you are just beginning the soap making process you must feel you are being ganged up on. Please set that feeling aside for a moment. The reason people are getting upset is because of the danger a lye heavy soap can cause. It is important, excess lye in soap could potentially...

    Jojoba beads

I recently received a sample of jojoba beads. Has anyone used these before? What products do you use them in and how are they used? Are they beneficial like the oil, or just decorative? Thanks for your help!

2017 HSCG conference - Las Vegas

Thanks Krista! Markets here were crazy busy! Most have ended now that the hot weather has settled in, I only do one every two weeks now so I have a bit of time to be on the forum. I would still lurk now and then but had no time to really participate! Definitely look into the convention. I...

    Rant about lying soapers

Seeing as they lied about the mold they probably also lied about the soap. However I want to bringing it to you attention that some of us Do make our own "melt and pour" soap. I make many types of translucent or semi translucent soaps that most people would think are a base, but are not. I do...

    Bath Bomb Molds

If you are using a round plastic or stainless mold you should not be leaving them in the mold. Only leave them in the mold if you are using silicone. If the mold is silicone you need to be sure it has very little detail. If you are using a stainless mold, tapping the mold with a spoon will help...

    what happens when...?

I would not recommend it. Too much liquid will keep your soap too soft for an extended period of time. Additionally milk is a heater. This means you have to be careful even when using the correct amount. First you could burn the milk with the lye (smell is terrible), then you need to take care...

"Winter is coming"...question about whipped body butter

    Here we go from NY

Remember too that Ancient Sedona contains vanilla and will discolor your soap. It is a great scent but be mindful of the discoloration in your design.

A few questions before my first batch

If you just want good basic soap try using 80% lard, 15% coconut oil, 5% castor oil. Run it through a lye calculator to get water and lye amounts for your batch size. Very good basic recipe that is well behaved with most scents and colors, non drying and easy to work with. Good luck to you.

    EOs in bombs and salts?

If you are only using salts you will have a problem. Salts absorb moisture and you need to counteract that process. Try mixing your salts with baking soda and /or corn starch. Then you can add your oils, fragrance and poly without ending up with a wet mess.

Would You Use Palm Oil Damaged in Shipping?

You might as well try it - you lose nothing in trying and might gain some. With very little risk why not try it.

Soap in tube bags? Has anyone tried this?

Ah, that is what we call PVC pipe. Downspouts here are the guttering on the outside of the houses and are usually aluminum with ridges along the sides.

    Laundry Soap Amount

I would not use it on wool, silk, or anything that should be dry cleaned but I use it on everything else, including lace.

    Laundry Soap Amount

Do you want a powder, a gel or a cream? I make cream and I use 12 oz of soap, grated to 16 ounces of washing soda, to 16 ounces of borax. Dissolve the soap in 96 ounces of water (boil and stir). Cool to about 100 degrees and add in borax stir till dissolved then add washing soda stir until...

Looking for suggestions on bags for customers at fairs

I actually keep plain bags for the men. I would say they are about 15% of my sales. I find the men just pick thing out quick, unlike the women who browse. The bags I use for the men are white and do not have my name on it or any identifying marks. I don't know if it matters to them, but my...

Looking for suggestions on bags for customers at fairs

First ask yourself what image you are trying to portray. Are you all natural? Luxury or high end? Simple country? Your bags should reflect your image as a whole. Natural I would go with a plain brown handled bag. Country, maybe a gingham print. Luxury, perhaps a euro style bag in your company...
