    Everything Melted!

I'll try grinding it. Thanks, cmz. I'll have to pass on the microwave, though.

    Best oil & Butter Vendors

I also like some of the oils/butters from Bramble Berry, but I don't like the shipping costs.

    Everything Melted!

DeeAnna (and anyone else), One piece of advice with the silicone bags: be prepared to scrape the contents out as soon as the bag is removed from the hot water. Otherwise the batter begins to harden and is harder to remove. I use a silicone spatula.

    Everything Melted!

Everything that was supposed to, anyway. Out of half a dozen or so syndet shampoo bar batches, I could never get everything to melt completely. The SCI was generally the culprit, l believe. The final bars had unmelted bits in them. I was determined to overcome this. Perhaps those with a...

    My First Salt Bars

I've now added salt bars with canning/pickling salt to my repertoire: peppermint scented. I fear the scent will be drastically faded in six months, but the soap should still be good .

    My First Salt Bars

No fear! My tongue was firmly in my cheek . . .

    My First Salt Bars

You realize, of course, that no matter the responses here ("Oooo, Jasmine, those salt bars are beautiful!!!" OR "Oh, JASmine! You are going to exit the shower with bloody stumps :(."), it leads to the same conclusion? I will be making more salt bars! How about dendritic salt? I think I have...

    My First Salt Bars

Hi, cmzaha! Yes, l saw the advice about reducing the size of the pink salt with a . . . l forget what it was. I decided to go ahead with the coffee grinder to see what would happen. The ground salt was quite fine. I do use a pouf (it makes lovely lather for any soap or shower gel). If the soap...

Syndet Shampoo Bar with Pine Tar?

And here's a pic. We'll see how it fares in the upcoming heat. Today is a beautiful 70-something with low humidity.

Syndet Shampoo Bar with Pine Tar?

Done! It's in the freezer for a bit and then I'll take a peek at it. I used a different recipe from the one above. 3g kokum butter 3g BTMS 50 3g stearic acid 28g SCI 33g sodium lauroyl sarcosinate 26g cocamidopropyl betaine 4g pine tar 2g dl-panthenol 0.8g liquid Germall Plus (was supposed to...

    Kiva Silicone Bag for Heating

I had the (hopefully!) brilliant idea to use one of these to melt my notoriously unmeltable SCI for syndet shampoo bars. As I type, I have a Kiva bag in boiling water with my ingredients. Well, the SCI certainly melted more, but not completely. Perhaps if I'd left it in the boiling water...

    My First Salt Bars

Thank you, Z! Shhh, don't tell . . . I've been sneaking one of the layered ones into the shower to try it ;).
