Any Assistance Greatly Appreciated - New to soap making

Different oils and superfat will produce different results in color and clarity. The formula I used to make clear Perhaps too much water in the dilution process. Again, not familiar with that method. The aforementioned shower gel formula is from an old website (about.com). I learned to make LS...

Premade lotion base for lotion bars?

Outside of these forums I have never seen a so called lotion bar in ANY store. And I've never seen "wound salve" anywhere. There are tons of Ointments and balms. I actually only heard two people use the term salve in my entire life, I used it because op is familiar with it. Idk and idc why...

    Melting BTMS

Never said it was normal for all btms. Just depending on the manufacturer, it can have a fishy smell. There's no need to use the oven and that's that. 🤣

    10% Honey - Help finding a thread

I tried honey and sugar and never noticed any benefits. So I never used either again. Nice mold for guest or travel soap-I bought a couple from Amazon and made guests bars to give away. 👍🏻

    Melting BTMS

I've bought btms that had a fishy smell right out the bag. The manufacturer stated the smell varied from batch to batch and the manufacturer, but that there was nothing wrong with it. I used it the same as always. The smell went away once it was heated. I had no problems with any of the...

    Melting BTMS

Btms in the oven? I don't understand. It melts easily on the stove, along with oils or by itself. I've melted it in a sauce pan directly on the heat alone and with oils. I've also used the microwave. Are you certain you're using btms. It literally will melt in boiling water..🥴

Premade lotion base for lotion bars?

The term lotion bar has never made sense. Someone had too much time on their hands when they tried to re-invent or rename salves and balms. 🙄🥴

'Old Reliable' or 'Core' Cold Process Recipes

While reading this, I thought I was sleep posting. I agree with 💯 of what you wrote. Also, the op has the basics-that & time is really all he needs to find his way beyond the boards.

    Never made soap...yet

😂 I got all my equipment from a thrift store and all of my oils from Walmart and lye from lowes. I used a hand mixer and everything was alright. Fun and exciting then and now. I still use all my thrift store equipment. 👍🏻😁

What soapy thing have you done today?

Made 3 batches of LS and loaded them with luxuriousness! Oatmeal/Shea Avocado/Olive and the good stuff I don't share anywhere. I've a few more batches I need to do and then it makes the lotion for the skin. 🤣🙃

    Purple micas…

Do you have a photo of the color you're looking for? I've used a couple of purples that I think came out very nice. I don't use colorants very often so I'll have to check my supplies to find the source. I believe it was ultramarine from WSP or Make-your-own.buzz

Avocado LS & Shea Oatmeal LS

Wanted to show the difference in the appearances of my last 3 batches of LS. 😁 I think I'll give my c-pots a break for a few days 😁

Any Assistance Greatly Appreciated - New to soap making

There's nothing wrong with opaque LS. I have formulas that are transparent and some that are opaque. I'm more concerned with quality not clarity. I just posted photos in the gallery of two formulas that are both excellent quality and one is opaque and the other is a clear honey color. I use...

    Never made soap...yet

Welcome! My first batch of LS was not my formula and it went very well. I use soapcalc when I started. Don't overthink it. It really is like cooking. Start with a 2 or 4 oil batch and use paper baking(loaf) pans for test or guest soap. Don't be discouraged and have fun! I bought most of my...

    Using Sour Milk in Soap

Atp nothing surprises me in the world of soapmaking. I was done when I saw bacon in soap. Then there's dried botanicals and oatmeal sitting on top of soap. Soap that looks like slices of pie or cake. Sour milk is pretty tame when you realize that somewhere there's probably a dirt bar with bacon...

Avocado LS & Shea Oatmeal LS

Thought I'd show the stages of my Avocado LS. Also the opaque Shea/Oatmeal. The bar soap is called lavender patch.

    Diluting Liquid Soap Help Needed

Cut the chunk into smaller pieces and put in a microwave safe container, add enough water to cover and microwave 30-40 sec bursts. Keep doing it and stir here and there until melted. I agree that dilution water amount varies from formula to formula. Just keep track of how much you use so you'll...
