What soapy thing have you done today?

I’m really impatient and couldn’t stand not knowing which FO was terrible in my CP soap - so I made another test batch. I also tested a coconut mango FO that is a known separator. That FO did instantly turn the batter liquid (from a medium trace emulsion) when I added the FO, but I could...

Brambleberry favorite fragrance oils for CP soap

Did it turn your soap dark brown within a day? Whichever fragrance is the light tan/cream white color I’d like to try again, lol!

Brambleberry favorite fragrance oils for CP soap

I hate fragrance headaches @AliOop @dmcgee5034 - looking at bramble-berry’s site I think I transposed the milk and honey FO for the black raspberry. Black raspberry is smelling nice and has a lovely very light brown/ cream color.

Brambleberry favorite fragrance oils for CP soap

I have energy and (I hate to type this) but it does have a strong chemical smell to me. But I might be mistaking litsea for chemical. I’m starting to think my sense of smell isn’t quite right because I keep smelling an unpleasant (to me) chemical smell with many of the fragrance oils. I used...

    I love cavity molds!

@Mobjack Bay - how do you get the swirls all the way through the soap in the rectangular molds? I’ve only used this type of mold so far and I’m scratching my head on how to do various pours with such a tiny area.

    I love cavity molds!

This post inspired me to buy a circular mold set!

Brambleberry favorite fragrance oils for CP soap

It does smell nice a day later and it did make my batter clump - but I could stir the clumps away. It discolors slightly (well slightly two days in - we’ll see). With black raspberry and vanilla - did you have any issues like strong discoloration with this one? Here are some pics I wonder...

What soapy thing have you done today?

The same brand that made the neroli fragrance water I was talking about previously, lol. That said I cannot get the cap to screw back on the EO correctly, so maybe it did oxidize. I bought the EO about 2.5 months ago.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I tested 11 fragrance oils and one EO blend. Anyone have soap turn orange and rice when adding sweet orange EO and rosemary EO blend? On the plus side this soap will probably make an amazing degreaser. The soap is white on the bottom so I’m thinking of just cutting the top off. Plus I really...

    Adding sugar to lye solution

I wonder if you could dissolve the sugar directly in sodium lactate and skip the reserved water. In positive news the soap is hardening well within 90 minutes of being pored so hopefully the sodium lactate miss will be ok!

I’ve enjoyed watching many of the creators mentioned! I also like Mrs Soap and Clay.

    Adding sugar to lye solution

@dmcgee5034 - it was a really inexpensive plastic Walmart or dollar store container that was microwave safe so I thought I could use it in a water bath. Nope. I need to buy a large Pyrex glass measuring cup for oil melting. Lesson learned for the sugar. It was a last minute addition and...

    Adding sugar to lye solution

If you add sugar to an already made lye solution - does it just precipitate out as clumps of sugar? I strained out the hard bits and goo while pouring the lye solution into my oils and plucked one big hard lump out before pouring it. I’m hoping it was just sugar and not lye that I strained...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made my fourth batch ever - with 30% cocoa butter. I was inspired by a chocolate cinnamon fragrance oil. It’s my first time using both a fragrance oil and titanium dioxide. The non-white section will discolor to a dark brown according to the fragrance oil notes. I came up with the...

Bath bomb Ewax or poly 80

@QuasiQuadrant - I think you need to go back and read the article more carefully. Some things that jumped out at me were - PS-80 is synthesized from oleic acid (already in soap) and dehydrated alcohol. I saw about 4 citations, two of which are “extremely rare” case reports (extremely rare...

Bath bomb Ewax or poly 80

@QuasiQuadrant - why do you think polysorbate 80 is carcinogenic? FWIW transdermal patches are intentionally designed to deliver a drug through skin. Skin is a pretty good barrier that is difficult to get any med through.

What to mix lye in if not plastic?

There are only 7 possible numbers in the recycling logo. Your choice is either 5 or they put an undefined number in a recycling logo. That seems unlikely. That there is also “PP” which corresponds to 5 says to me that is in fact a type 5 plastic. That’s a long winded way to say I agree with...

    Shampoo bar is too soft

I made the bar from the humblebee and me recipe! It takes a long time to dry out - weeks! I was not able to unmold it for days. It was at least a week (if not longer) before the bar lost a play doh consistency. At 2 months it’s hard but crumbly

    Toxicity symbols

Don’t drink it, don’t feed it to your fish, and looks like you wouldn’t want to pour it into your eye. :) Honestly that sounds about how I’d expect for tea tree oil. People use it to kill toe fungus and that is hard to kill! Think of it this way - you wouldn’t want to drink lye either or get it...

    Difficulty finding plastic type recently

I’ve been going to Walmart and the dollar store to buy plastic soap making vessels. However, many cheap plastic containers items don’t have the plastic type recycling information on them anymore! Is there something I’m missing? I’ve poured over the clear plastic containers, read through the...
