Best simple cold process soap design technique for a first time artesian soap maker?

Oh wow, I figured those were crummy, they were too cheap. So does anyone know what the "Cadillac" of soap colors are, ones that will work with cold process with minimal issues? The creme-de-la-creme? The mero mero?

Best simple cold process soap design technique for a first time artesian soap maker?

I have made a couple batches of soap that turned out pretty good. I always made hot (well, really warm lol) process. But I want to do a cold one and try and make a cool design. I have the soap mold below, and have some soap pour funnels. I want to make some cold process soap this weekend and...

So, a bunch more misc. starting soap making questions

I made a few batches, promptly forgot almost everything after getting busy at work and having to take time off from the hobby, then started watching youtube videos again on hot process soap making. But they all seem to leave some fine details uncovered. Lots of miscellaneous questions, both...

    Fatty Acids (FAs) Profiles

Cool link Zany. I love reading about the different fatty acids in soaps. I would love to one day somehow separate out JUST the different types of fatty acids, like linolenic acid (in triglyceride form of course) and make soap from that to see how it comes out, I know it would not be good, but...

How are commercial/industrial soap bars better/worse than the ones we make?

I've been doing some reading about this. It seems there are at least a couple differences between homemade soaps that we all make and commercial/industrial ones you guy at the grocery store: 1. The ones at the store have had most (all?) of their glycerine emoved. This I think helps make the...

What is this slime on my soap?

Haha thanks Allcop! Will that soap also develop on commercial soaps like Dove or whatever? Or they do things to prevent it? Like add seditives. :p

What is this slime on my soap?

Hi Al lcop. It is 100 percent canola oil soap. It was a little wet in the shower where that was sitting and that slime for on it. No sedatives other than the oil lye and water to make it. Thanks.

In cold process, how long does it take for chemical reaction to occur?

Thanks resolvableOwl! So I just broke off a small piece of the soap and put it on my tongue - that works for the test correct? Yea I was not going to put my tongue right on the bar of soap, memories of the kid getting his tongue stuck to the freezing pole in A Christmas Story were coming back...

So do they make/sell oils with only ONE type of fatty acid trygliceride?

We all know making soap from different oils will produce soap with different properties. But so far as I know every oil is a mix of different triglycerides containing different mixes of fatty acids. Is there any place that sells oil that are only one type of triglyceride, e.g., an oil that is...

What actually happens during the "cure" period?

I've seem tons of people say you need to cure your soap, for a few days if its hot processed or like 3 weeks if its cold processed. What actually happens during that curing period? I see people say it gets "milder". But I watched a youtube video the other day where the lady filming it said...

In cold process, how long does it take for chemical reaction to occur?

Thank you Obsidian and Owl! Owl, I was just mostly curious I guess, but I was just thinking its best if I handle it not at all before the cure period since I assume if I touch it it could cause chemical burns and what not. I will say this - I put some CP soap I made to my tongue like 24 hours...

In cold process, how long does it take for chemical reaction to occur?

I think in hot soap making, the chemical reaction is basically supposed to be done before you stop the cooking process. But in cold soap making, I think even after the soap dries the chemical reactions making it soap are still going on. How long after you mix it up before the chemical...

Can I get thoughts on my first soap making attempt?

Thanks everyone! I think from what everyone has said is that I measured the oil on VOLUME, not weight. So here is the exact calculator I used: https://www.brambleberry.com/calculator?calcType=lye This was me going by ounces, plugging in 2% superfat, and using 16 oz of oil. It spit out 2.07...

Can I get thoughts on my first soap making attempt?

I used pure canola oil as just a cheap first attempt. I used the calculator here: Lye Calculator and Fragrance Calculator Which for 16 ounces canola oil gave me 2.07 oz lye and 4.63 ounces of distilled water. I translated those to ml, which were 473 ml of canola oil, 61 ml lye and 137 ml...
