    VERY new to candlemaking

I also avoid soy because I find it difficult to get a good hot throw. I use a paraffin was: IGI 4627 comfort blend wax. Excellent hot and cold throw, single pour and smooth tops. A little tricky in the beginning to figure out how to get it out of the plastic, but I figured out how to put it...

    Time-saving Tips

I got so frustrated with lining molds. First, I always had leaks when I cut the paper the way you do. I found a folded method that was easier and didn’t result in leaks, but it still took too much time. I eventually just bought some molds with silicone liners and life is SO MUCH BETTER. But...

    Time-saving Tips

Looks like my living room couch and the kitchen counters are over run with soaping tools that I just washed and candles I just made. There’s no place to sit, or eat or cook in my apartment.

    Rounded Edge Beveler

I got the Kakuri. I love it. Easy to use. Your picture showed not just one rounded edge, but two on the same side. How did you do that?

    Rounded Edge Beveler

I bought one of the bevelers that IrishLass uses. I bit pricey but it creates a nice edge with one swipe across the blade. I haven't figured out how to make the multiple rounded edges yet that IrishLass has (very beautiful!). Still working on that.

    Percentage used

Hadn’t thought about curing or that the other ingredients might vary from batch to batch. Good thought. I think I’ll start using FO as % of oil weight. More consistent and will reduce batch costs, which is always a good thing.

    Percentage used

I always calculate the FO percentage based on the total batch weight which means that if the Category 9 recommended limit is 4%, for a batch with 48 oz of oils with a total batch weight of 95 oz, I’d use 3.8 oz of FO. If I was basing the FO percentage on the weight of oils only, I’d use only...

    My new packaging

The packaging is lovely. It makes the product seem more upscale. Do you hand wrap the soap yourself?

    Ash Removal - Looks Promising

Sorry I misread your statement and I guess what this string is about. I have not tried spraying alcohol on soap that is curing. I’ll have to try that.

    Ash Removal - Looks Promising

Yes, spraying on soap I’ve just poured into the mold. The ash hasn’t formed yet. I spray to prevent ash. The 99% alcohol works great.

    Ash Removal - Looks Promising

I tried 70 % & 91% rubbing alcohol but still got ash. 99% worked much much better. you can get it on amazon.

    Scooby Doo soap

Sometimes a "fail" turns out just the opposite. Haven't done much with piping or squeeze bottles, but I may give your "technique" a try. I love the result.

I love using Dove soap -- any comparable recipe?

Thanks very much. I’ll try it.

    YouTube videos can be helpful

Watching that video (I didn't have the audio on) was like watching a train wreck. I've never had a seize, fortunately. I commend them for trying to save it. At least they got some bars out of it. I would not have known what to do. I'll have to remember the quick HP as a save if I'm ever in...

2 month lye water storage suggestions?

I use faye (spelling?) yogurt containers to mix and store small amounts of lye water. They’re about a quart.
