First attempt at a feather swirl 🪶 and an acceleration rescue! 👍

It's lovely! I had issues with a secret feather swirl and acceleration today as well!

What soapy thing have you done today?

Well, I had intended to do my own "O Christmas Tree" secret feather swirl, but I had to abandon that plan mid-pour because my white layer was thickening up, while my green layers were still very fluid. I just shoved it all in there and did a hanger swirl. Not gonna lie, there was a little bit of...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Okay, so next question: how do you package these? I used rectangular molds (because that's all I have) and cut them in half. Maybe little tins?

good blend for a honey & oat CP soap?

Hmmm, I go to spicy when I think of that combo. My oatmeal honey soap is unscented, so I'm not much help. Cinnamon? Lemon?

I use cocoa powder to get a nice brown color.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Next up for me will be Christmas/holiday soaps. Making a fir needle scented "O Christmas Tree" with a secret feather (tree) swirl, and the other will be "Wintermint." Trying to decide between a one pot wonder or an ombre for that one. I won't actually be able to make it for a couple of weeks...

    3 batches with stearic spots!

I've had success in heating my shea/cocoa butter up to 170 to help eliminate stearic spots. I don't use palm, but I think it's the same concept.

    Fall is here!

Here is what I've been working on! Pumpkin spice (pumpkin puree, orange, clove, cardamom and cinnamon leaf EOs and a little bit of turmeric) Fall Forest (turmeric and cocoa powder for color, bergamot, cedarwood, cinnamon leaf and vetiver EOs) Spicy Chai (allspice powder, EO blend Chai Masala...

My coconut oil is melting in the heat!

There are multiple threads about palm substitutes. I took this info from IrishLass: "While fiddling around on SoapCalc one day a few years ago, I was able to come up with a unique combination of specific veggie butters and oils whose combined fatty acid profile was so close to palm oil's fatty...

My coconut oil is melting in the heat!

There are many places that are producing sustainable palm oil, but unfortunately in many places they are cutting down rainforests to create palm plantations in order to supply the growing demand for palm oil which is used in soaps, cosmetics, food and other products. From the World Wildlife...

    Trying spider silk

Be careful--if you plant comfrey in the ground it will take over!

What soapy thing have you done today?

I am back at it! I've made 5 different batches of soap in the last couple of weeks: pumpkin spice, fall forest, spicy chai, mountain spice and rosemary mint. The rosemary mint batch got terrible silicone rash, but only in one of the loaf molds (I use 2 per batch.) I've had a little bit of...

    Close call with lye

I have done that before as well, @Zing. Luckily I always add my lye to my liquid solution (water or whatever I'm using) down in my utility sink, so if it boils over it just goes down the drain! It was a good lesson for me to be a little more patient! Glad you weren't hurt!

    Green Tea/Coconut

Thanks! I added just a tiny bit of spirulina because it didn't look green at all when I mixed it!

    Green Tea/Coconut

Here’s the cut. You can definitely see the green!

    Green Tea/Coconut

I FINALLY did something soapy! I made green tea with coconut milk soap. I infused olive oil with matcha powder for about a month. I split the batter with uncolored and the greenish infused oil and did a hanger swirl, or at least attempted a hanger swirl. It kind of turned into a plop and glop...

    Formulating Bear Tallow Soap

I made a 100% bear tallow soap and then I made another one that was mixed with other oils/butters. Let me see if I can find the recipe. The 100% bear soap was nice, very white and very hard, but low lather, so honey will be a great addition.
