    Mixing Titanium Dioxide-Micas-Activated Charcoal

Is there a rule against mixing the above? I'm going to assume there is a problem with mixing micas with TD and AC, but not mixing TD and AC with each other. Just a hunch. Probably wrong.

cold process soap not coming to trace even after half an hour

Which is why I use the word "emulsion" when that's what I mean. It took me a while to figure out what you just said. It was so confusing. That was a major light-bulb moment, and it cleared up so much with respect to adding micas, making designs, etc.

cold process soap not coming to trace even after half an hour

But - my understanding is that stick blending doesn't cause emulsion, it accelerates "trace" but doesn't cause emulsion. That is simply chemical.

Changing Superfat % does not change soap bar quality values in SoapCalc?

Does superfatting affect the amount of time emulsion occurs, and the amount of time batter remains thin & runny, or is that a factor of temperature and types of oils used? I ask the question because I am going to start experimenting with micas, where consistency of soap batter is important.

    Calling me Hun

The problem with such a diverse society is that different rules apply in different parts of the country. Also, English doesn't have a formal "you." (Second person? I forget my grammar.) In Russian people are referred to or addressed in a formal way as "Your Name, Your Patronymic" until you...

    Getting in shape

I did the same thing when I traveled in Turkey. I told myself that I'm on vacation to a country with a great cuisine. Don't eat junk. (They have it like every other country does.) Just eat three great meals a day, one snack. When I came home I'd lost 5 pounds! Of course if I'd gone to Italy...

    water

LOL, it's not from the city. It's piped from upstate in a complex system. I remember as a kid traveling outside the city, I forget where, and being really shocked (I think my phrase was "grossed out") by the tap water. Other NYers may boast about the skyscrapers, the theater, the museums. But...

Questions about oils and butters (tempering and storage)

That sounds like a myth to me. Willing to be corrected, but an oil or a butter is a combination of fatty acids and you won't distribute them more "evenly" by melting/heating them. Since I don't use palm I can't speak about it, but everything else I store in the fridge, including oils. If I had...

    Calling me Hun

I love that about the South. Maybe it's because people are so polite there in general that the terms of endearment are so endearing. I know people think of NYC as rude and hostile (because it is!) but believe it or not when you get into the boroughs (not Manhattan) people are quite friendly and...

    water

Thanks Zany. Read the threads & learned a new word: "necroposting." That's when you respond to an old thread & many of the contributors are no longer with us - I mean in the forum. WRT water, I'm coming around to the idea of using distilled water for soaping although I'm an NYC drinking water...

    Getting in shape

Right - trying to restrict eating without a plan is difficult. My point was: fat loss comes from a calorie deficit and unless you're a professional athlete or dancer, that's hard to pull off.

    Getting in shape

Everyone has their own way but for me, diet comes first. I have managed to put weight on when very active and lose weight when relatively sedentary. I exercise for general health reasons, not to lose weight. Just speaking personally - YMMV.

    water

I use dirty, filthy NYC tap water. That's a joke. We have great-tasting tap water (which of course comes from outside the city). I refuse to buy water bottles, which makes me an environmentalist by default. I'd drink tap water in any case but that's another reason. That said, I'm going to get...

    Washing soap materials question?

I intend to reduce superfatting to 1%-2% in future, but some plastics always feel oily even after washing repeatedly. I've noticed this in washing out storage containers, not just in soaping. This is an interesting discussion about the subject. (I would feel apprehensive to go down to 0%...

    Getting in shape

I don't have studies but I think that's a myth. Anyway, I'm not doing intense exercise nowadays. I don't use protein powder to build muscle; I use it to preserve what I have and lose fat weight.

    Getting in shape

I throw in two TBSPs of oatmeal, which I grind into powder w/a spice grinder. I guess you could do it in the blender but I think it's better to pulverize it beforehand.
