    Preserving Liquid soap

I'm not an expert on it by any means, but this is what I recall from my own research of the subject. There is not a consensus as to whether preservatives are needed for liquid soap - higher risk factors include diluting with a large amount of liquid, and diluting with things other than water...

Best oils to stop soap seizing?

I'm not 100% clear from your post if you used the EOs separately or in some combinations. Certainly I've used lavender EO extensively (on its own, from 4-5 different suppliers) and found no acceleration from it. If you're having trouble after getting light trace, I'd suggest aiming for emulsion...

    Bigger masterbatch idea..will it fly?

Recently I've taken to keeping the oils in smaller bottles - I was using a big bucket and scooping from it but I found it a bit hard on the back. Given that I had a bunch of empty olive oil bottles, I just poured the mixed and melted oils back into those. That lets me remelt just a bottle at a...

The Guy At The End Of The Bar...

The gal at the end of the bar thinks it's annoying when I stroke her cheek, but even more annoying when I stop!

    When to refrigerate soap

Not sure if this helps but I CPOP at about 45-50 C and leave the oven on (my oven is pretty stable at that temperature). I always get a full gel that way and have never had cracks, although none of the recipes I use are particularly prone to overheating. Still, it might give you a benchmark for...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I'll keep an eye on my brain and see if it throws out any ideas for how to make a travel version suitable for teacups!

What soapy thing have you done today?

Somewhat tangentially soapy... My bathroom is my happy place. For Valentine's Day past, husband bought me a lovely bath tray to hold everything I need. Only trouble is, I have to sit up to reach my wine... #firstworldproblems So I took an outline of the bath and made this nifty device 😁

CP Shave soap slow to trace?

Ah gotcha, sorry, I interpreted that as a tweak you had made since the previous batch.

CP Shave soap slow to trace?

I don't have hands on experience with it, but isn't one of the characteristics of stearic acid a particularly fast trace? So swapping it out would have made the recipe a lot slower.

    Bug bite salve

I just made a new larger batch (25 tubes) of my bug balm yesterday. It's doing a pretty good job of keeping away the creatures when I remember to keep it applied, and healing the result when I don't. Mum and husband also report that it is effective for soothing nettle stings.

    Oven gel after cure?

For a quick answer since I'm just passing through - you can put it in the oven without slicing or unmoulding. It will get softer so if you've already taken it out of the mould it may collapse, but you can just put it back in if needed. I'm sure more people will be along in a bit with more...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Mum has just gone home, we did some great making during the week and finished up with some soaps yesterday. First lard recipe for me, so I'm very curious to see how it comes out! Mum picked the colours (mix of red, purple, and activated charcoal), the fragrance (dragon heart) and the confetti...

    July 2021 SMF Soap Un-Challenge - Confetti/Cubes

@The_Phoenix - We have the same setup, but with Polish also for both. When they joined the EU there was a very large number of immigrants to Ireland and they seem very organised 🤣 There are a good number of Polish groceries, even in smaller towns, also hairdressers etc, and I believe even a...

    July 2021 SMF Soap Un-Challenge - Confetti/Cubes

I found some lard today! In the Polish section of the supermarket! So hopefully today if mum wants to help out, or at the weekend if she doesn't, I'll make soap.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Speaking of soaps sweating, I was very concerned when I noticed that one of my cardboard boxes of cured soap was very wet, like something had spilled in it. Then I discovered it was a bunch of soap bars sitting in there absorbing water out of the air and leaking it into the box! I haven't made...
