    My first batch.

I think a lot of us can empathize with wanting to be creative right away! It's only natural to try everything at one, but maybe it will help to realise that you will get to be creative faster once you have a solid grounding. If you try too many things at once it can be hard to know what caused...

    What the @#%$ have I done 🤬😡

I believe the previous 'soapmaking' was grating up hotel soap bars and adding water.

UK supplier for red mica please

I went to get you this thread but then I saw you were already on it ;) https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/can-i-get-the-mad-micas-red-set-in-europe.83433/ The micamoma rock star red gave me a decent result in the end, but they did some shenanigans with pricing that makes me disinclined to...

Has anybody made DIY hair products for hold?

(why is hair gel bad?) I've done a small amount of experimenting based on recipes from aroma zone - the simplest iirc is aloe vera gel with a holding agent added. They sell one called natur'lift which works pretty well, I've also used it for making styling mousse (from a foamer bottle). I'm...

    What the @#%$ have I done 🤬😡

Was this a hot process recipe? That soap looks very 'cooked' to me. If you want something that's easy to pour and fluid then HP is probably not the place to start. There's also a lot going on in terms of colours there. Far be it from me to tell anyone not to experiment, but it's generally...

Need help with Dilution and Color: My liquid soap is clear but dark, I didn't use dark oils

It's midnight here so I can't write a long post but I found that moving to cold process liquid soap (CPLS) helped immensely with getting a pale golden colour rather than dark amber. There are some good threads which you should find if you search on those words.

    Amino acid soap Base

My Japanese is weak, but I know enough that they're not talking about the soap recipe. Saying thanks and talking about the Instagram app.

    salty/rancid smell from soap

If the stick blender is the only common factor that would definitely be my first suspicion. I've been surprised by one or two in the past that I thought were perfectly clean and dry only to taken them on and have liquid seep out of the shaft at the seal where the blade is. It seems quite...

    Gloves?

Powder, of course! Usually the reason I don't manage to reuse them as much as I'd like is that they tear when taking them off. Between the environmental impact and the shortage due to the pandemic, I feel bad every time I take a new one out of the box, but I have such small hands that only the...

Runny peanut butter soap, any guesses as to what may have happened?

I have made LS but the owl already covered anything I might say and more... And yeah, I too, opened the thread like 🍿 🍻 😁

Help! My husband cooked my CPOP!

Haha, I've left enough weird stuff in the oven over the years that I don't think husband would ever turn it on without checking! If anything I'm probably more likely to forget and do it myself

    Lye Masterbatch: Storage/Dosage Ideas

I use a (bought for the purpose) plastic petrol can to do the mixing in - it's reassuringly solid and red and contains the fumes well, although when the pressure seems to be getting high I do unscrew the lid a little bit to relieve it. Once it's all dissolved and cooled I transfer it to 1l...

SMF September 2021 Challenge - Weather Event or Life Event Inspired soap

Well, I cut my first challenge "attempt"... Normally I would hold back from posting on case I needed it as an entry down the road, but... Yeah, no. My inspiration is our wedding, which was held in a big old castle, and with a classic red rose style. Think old oak beams and stone walls, red...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made soap today! It's a challenge attempt so I won't post pics, but I suspect another attempt will be needed. I had everything laid out before I realised that the red mica I had been planning on using was all gone, so I had to improvise. I was aiming for a dark rose red and I managed...

    Completely New

It's not? My soap is largely made from butcher's scraps and drain cleaner and I defy anyone to tell me it's not awesome 🤣 (Ok my most recent lye is from a soap provider but only because it was a bit cheaper)

My first soap recipe (actually 2 ;)

Apologies for the detour but I couldn't let it pass... Good Omens The "correct answer" to the question, according to the novel is one. Should this be apart of the article? If so, should it be listed as or under "Uses in popular culture?" Master Redyva 18:11, 30 November 2007 (UTC) <<The...

    gelling, I don't get it

Reasons to gel: Your soap is going to get warm enough anyway to get partly gelled and you want to avoid the partial gel look. You want to take advantage of the ability to unmould and cut a bit sooner. You like the more intense colour and more transparent base that gel gives. Any others...

    Oi! Hi from Brazil!

Welcome, glad you joined! From what I've seen, it depends... A few weeks is probably fine; past that you may be better off starting a new thread and linking to the older one if the context is important. More so that people will not ignore it because it's an older conversation.

    Coronavirus

Oh, I read that as not going out to eat during the pandemic, maybe your interpretation is more accurate. 🤔
