I've got Bubblegum FO! It smells great and discolours to mud. Someday I'll figure out an appropriate colour scheme. FWIW, neither child in this house likes it. I like your feedback for my soaps, @Rick Potter , but will be doing the opposite for this soap: no lard, no fragrance (esp lavender)...

Thanks for all the replies! I'm going to have to think about the fragrance....in theory, they like fruity, except when they don't and this one has an allergy and that one gets migraines from lavender, etc. AFAIK, they will not be choosing the soaps, they will be put into gift bags. Keep in mind...

    Fragrance Oils in Canada

Yes, they seem to be about where they usually are....I'll be clicking refresh and it'll sit there on the same days for a while then jump by 2 days. Though I guess I'd rather they pack my order than update their page :-P

    Fragrance Oils in Canada

New Directions is shipping orders placed on May 6&7. I ordered last night and can let you know when mine ships (although I usually hear the doorbell before I get the "on its way" notice....). NDA currently has a coupon code for 5% off your order, plus they have the cheapest prices in Canada by a...

Yes, it's true, at the end of the day, there are so many variables and personal preferences. I made soap 2 days back to back (almost never happens) but then immediately forgot the details. Was unmoulding from the cavity moulds and was shocked at the difference in texture between the soaps...

What about grapeseed? I have that too. I will venture out of the house tomorrow to Costco, so perhaps they will have sunflower or safflower. I've always been surprised that in the 18 mos since I started looking for it, they've never once stocked it.

@soapmaker your recipe is the exact one I first learned on a couple of years ago. I had trouble getting sunflower though (well, Costco didn't have it and that was that :-P) and then moved away from palm about 6 mos ago. Are all liquid oils equal? Can I replace sunflower with RBO in either of...

Ok did it. Ordered some palm (and some lip balm tubes and some new FOs and some clay and maybe a couple of other things--oopie). So....what recipes do you recommend with palm? I have one, but haven't used it in ages (like, 6 whole months!) and maybe I was in a rut with it anyway. @shunt2011...

Very good point. Unfortunately, I don't have access to tallow. I could order some palm, although I had resolved to not use it anymore....maybe I should though for this purpose. I won't be able to make a good soap with just the liquid oils (plus coconut) will I?

    Zany's no slime castile

I'm going to pop in here with some advice for new soapers....make this recipe early! Maybe not for your first soap (although maybe), but within your first month. I waited and read and made other soaps and waited and waited and waited and finally made this one a few months ago. However, with such...

Hi all. I'm (maybe) committed to making 72 soaps for my son's Grade 8 class graduation gift bags. I'm going to make loaves, in various colours (school colours are navy and red, but that will make such terrible lather that 71 sets of parents will hate me....) and the school initials and colours...

    Natures Fragrance

Just popping in to report that Stormwatch is very nice once soaped! Very strong and a pleasant smell. Attached is my confetti soap. Leather is....well....first of all, it accelerates, which forced (I mean "allowed) me to have my first re-batch experience. I had made this soap with a dark beer...

    Zany's no slime castile

Same thing happened to me. Soap was consistency of brie cheese. I left it alone and within a few days it firmed up and is now as hard as a rock (months later). I still haven't used it because I want to give it a nice long cure, but have since made another castile (made it the following the day...

    Coronavirus

My first Christmas-like experience was when my first Walmart grocery order arrived Sunday morning. Everything that needed to go in the fridge was washed and everything else is in a 3-day time-out in the storage room. Second Christmas-like experience will be tomorrow morning when I can go get the...

Let's play "What is in Your Freezer"

That's what my mom in Saskatchewan said. Said she'd pop them in the mail..... I'll have some soon enough, I think: Sunday's online grocery order had 3 bunches and next Monday's has another 3 bunches....

Looking for just the right Lavender.

You're right that NDA has temporarily suspended orders, so it might be a few weeks before they're back up to speed, but they have also recently stopped charging their fee for orders under $100, so you can order any amount from there. Still have to play for shipping.

Does anyone list their ingredients properly?

Do we though, in Canada? My supplier doesn't even list ingredients (although I know it's vegan, kosher, from India and free of peanuts *and* BSE!). Our food can just say "colour" (Is that orange coming from tartrazine? beta-carotene? ground-up tabby cats? who knows?), so I'd be surprised if our...

Let's play "What is in Your Freezer"

@Misschief & @bookreader451 , you've both got interesting things! I am a bit alarmed at what's NOT in my freezer....no frozen overripe bananas! For my entire adulthood, I'd been throwing overripe bananas in the freezer to make banana bread later. No one could possibly make or eat enough banana...

Looking for just the right Lavender.

I would think that if you're concerned about sensitive skin and additives, you'd want to stay away from FOs entirely and use only EOs, no? There is also some evidence of two very commonly used oils, lavender and tea tree oil, as being endocrine disruptors, and that neither should be used by...
