SMF January 2020 Challenge Signup thread - Book Inspired

@amd Does our entry photo have to be in color? I'm thinking my possible entry might look better in black and white, but I don't want to break any rules.

SMF January 2020 Challenge Signup thread - Book Inspired

Yeah... not at all happy with my design for the book I had chosen. Last night I came up with a new idea and think I have enough ingredients for one more batch of soap. I'm going to make one more batch tomorrow and hope for the best!

    Newbie Lessons Learned!

Holy guacamole!! 15 minutes from start to finish?! You are a speed demon! It takes me between 60-90 minutes, but I don't masterbatch my lye, have a microwave to melt any of my butters and that includes clean up time.

    Soleselfie/ brine soap question

Not to complicate the matter... but why such a high salt rate? From what I've read, salt water and brine have the same salinity, which is 3.5%. I have a feeling you all know something that I don't. Can someone please explain?

First and probably only attempt has been made! I'm running low on most of my ingredients and need to reorder, I'm not sure they would arrive before the challenge closes. Let's see if my vision and my execution are anywhere near each other.

    Post your happy

I jokingly suggested to my husband that I should take a 'business trip' to Marseille, France to tour the soap making factory there. On New Year's day we booked a flight for me to Marseille!! It will be a long weekend just before my birthday, with no kids and no hubby, to go geek out on soap!!

    Flags?

I've been kicking around the idea of making a Danish flag soap, which would be very similar design to a Swedish flag. My plan was basically to do it layer by layer, but I haven't quite worked out how to keep the lines on the top and bottom straight. I think the easiest way might be to make one...

    New Year Soaping Goals

I've been working on setting goals for the new year as well. So far I've come up with: - Get 200 more Instagram followers - Start using EOs and clays for a more "natural" line of soaps - Make and test Marseille inspired soap - Decide on fragrances and designs for soaps to be submitted for...

    Making Soap with silcone columns

Where did you buy the mold from? If you got it from Amazon the amount of soap it holds should be listed in the description. Obsidian mentioned that BB molds hold 4.5 oz.

    December 2019 Un-Challenge - New to You

Here's a picture of my first attempt at mica lines. I used Raspberry and Vanilla FO, added a little TD because I couldn't remember if the FO discolored. The pink is Terra Cotta mica. I was worried about my batter being too thin and breaking through the lines but I think I let it get too thick...

    How do you choose?

This year I decided sell at 2 holiday markets. The first was a small market with one other soap vendor and about 10-15 vendors in total. This was my friend's first holiday market and she tried her best. I don't have any complaints about how she ran it or promoted it. The other soap vendor was at...

Just out of curiosity... why a 1% SF? From what I've read, you need a 20ish% SF to keep pure coconut oil soap from being too harsh on skin. Do you have a different use planned for it?

    Post your Gripe

Funny story...I got a message one day from my youngest son's daycare saying they had a case of Roskilde disease. I had to do some googling to figure out what they were talking about because Roskilde is a city where they have, among other things, a large music festival. They were of course...
