    Getting started with oxides

I started experimenting with oxides over the summer but got discouraged by my results. I bought oxide called quinizarine green CI 61565 from a local vendor that sells ingredients for cosmetics and soap. In Hebrew (the local language) it's labeled as turquoise, although I'd say it's more royal...

How to make a "fresh" scent

I made a lime/eucalyptus EO soap recently, and it was lovely and fresh. I'm sure bergamot would be a great substitute for the lime. ETA: I think a bergamot/grapefruit blend would also be a "fresh" blend.

What are your top 3 favorite soft oils and why?

Thank you for this!! I also think of HO sunflower relative to olive oil. I use and love soy wax, but I'm also intrigued by soft oil soaps. I recently made a soap that was: 75% Sunflower HO 10% Coconut 10% almond oil 5% Castor oil and it was quite lovely. I added rice puree for hardness and a...

What are your top 3 favorite soft oils and why?

@ResolvableOwl : These few lines of yours have completely shaken my confidence (baby . . . Simon & Garfunkel playing in my head) in my powers of observation. I've pretty much concluded that if a soap of mine is not hard enough, it's because there's too much HO sunflower in it. But I'm also...

    Carbonated Soap?

My stick blender also makes bubbles. I try to not use it and instead usually just hand-mix with my whisk. If I have to use the stick blender, I make sure I only reach light trace. Then I have time to use the whisk and mix out the bubbles.

This is why I make soap!

Yes! My 22 year old daughter is backpacking in Central America now. She insisted on taking a few bars of my soap, despite the weight it added to her pack. She likes it! she likes it!

    What's good with Lemon-Eucalyptus?

I use 2% lemon eucalyptus and 2% spearmint in my batches. It's a good balance, I think.

    What's good with Lemon-Eucalyptus?

Thanks for this thread! I always sweeten my lemon eucalyptus with spearmint, but I love the ideas above for other blends.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Here's the soap I made yesterday. Scented with eucalyptus citriodora and spearmint EOs. I'm happy with it except for the bit of mica that didn't get mixed in. I was hurrying to pour because the green (Jungle Green from Micas and More) was thickening quickly!

What soapy thing have you done today?

Here's soap I cut yesterday. (The light blue background was inspired by @MobjackBay and her new beautiful new photo backdrop.) I used Blackberry and Magnolia FO from Micas & More for the first time – and it accelerated! The colored part - equal parts of Micas & More cosmic purple and ruby red –...

    Soap's In Shower

I know this is off topic. Sorry, OP. I just wanted to know how much banana you use per pound (500g) of oils. I'm dying to try it. Thanks!

Yes! And a little goes a long way! It's a bit sharp, which is why I sweeten it with spearmint. You seem like a master blender, so if you decide to sweeten it, I'd be interested to know what you came up with.

To my nose, it doesn't have the traditional eucalyptus scent. It's more similar to citonella. Very lemony, as @AliOop said.

If you're open to EOs, I'd recommend eucalyptus citriodora (also called eucalyptus lemon). You get a very fresh scent and a lemon that sticks - all in one! I blend it with spearmint EO to sweeten it up a bit. I use only a tiny bit (2% eucalypus citriodora + 1% spearmint) for a good, strong scent.

I love the natural and rustic look of this soap! It reminds me of stone or marble.
