    Infusing resin in oils question

I have collected some pine resin and infused it in olive oil. When calculating the recipe in the lye calculator, should I measure the olive oil before I add the resin or after? Will a big glob of pine resin melted into the olive oil affect the hardness or other properties of the soap?

    Mint condition

    That's a great sounding blend.

    Mint condition

I recently smelled a soap scented with lemongrass and spearment and it was amazingly good. I am going to try to dupe it, but I don't know what percentages to use. Especially as EOCALC doesn't give ANY safe rate for spearment! Any suggestions?

How do you clean up after soap is made?

You have a dishwasher, but not a washing machine?

    Red wine fragrance oil?

I saw that, but wondered how much it would cost to ship to the US. Do they have a US distributor?

    Red wine fragrance oil?

Most I've tried are just awful. Finally found a great one, Merlot by Naturals by Nana. Apparently they went out of business? Anybody know if they are still around and, if not, whether they sold their fragrances to somebody else? Thanks!

Good apple or fruit FO from BB?

Hi, I realize this is an old post. I found it doing a search on Naturals by Nana, because that was where I used to buy the only convincing red wine fragrance oil. They seem to be out of business? If so, did some other company buy their fragrances? Would love help with this. Thanks!

    Beginner Soap Maker

That's what I have always done. Just curious why we do that instead of adding the SL to the oils.

    Beginner Soap Maker

I accidentally posted this on a very old thread (I forgot it's now 2021; not 2020...Sorry!), and now I'm going to resurrect this one, which is old, but not that old! Zing, do you add sodium lactate to the cooled lye water or to the oils before you add the lye mixture? Does it make a difference?

    Sodium lactate

I add sodium lactate to the cooled lye water. I just saw a recommendation to add it to the oils before adding the lye water. What is the difference?

    soapmakingfriend calculator help

I thought there was a forum thread on soapmakingfriend, but can't find it. My question is how to sort my recipes so the most recent one shows up first? It seems my recipes are showing up in alphabetical order. Thanks!

    hand-held steamer?

I just plane my regular loaf soap bars to get rid of the ash. But now I have an order for guest soaps, that will have decorative tops. I have heard the recommendation of a steamer. Any recommendations for where I might get one?

What soapy thing have you done today?

Oh, great, thanks a lot. And where do I get this meadowfoam seed oil? Supplier?

    Pine rosin in lye water?

I thought I saw a post about this here somewhere but can't find it. I have some natural rosin/sap that I harvested from a pinon tree. Very sticky stuff, but very aromatic. I put it in some distilled water and simmered it for awhile. Lots of oily residue on the surface of the water now. I'm...

    Handmade Soap and Health Claims

I'm the one with the SCC on my finger who started this thread. Wanted to clarify a few things. I trust science. Having worked as an infectious disease epidemiologist and clinical researcher for many years, I have a respect for what is known, how it has come to be known, and how to prioritize...

    Handmade Soap and Health Claims

I was going to post a link to it, but I wont. There is a soap maker on Etsy who claims that her products have ingredients that "have proven to" work better than chemotherapy and other modern treatments for lung cancer.

    Handmade Soap and Health Claims

Thanks, Richard. Also the earlier person who posted this [[I don't think that recognizing that someone has a medical issue and pointing out that they need to see a physician for it has anything to do with making a claim about your homemade soap. Going from the title of this thread here.]] I...

I don't think there is such a thing as benign cancer. Just sayin' :)

    Handmade Soap and Health Claims

Soap is not curative. If one has sensitive skin, some soaps are less irritating than others. It's the reason I started making soap. My concern is that, believing soap (and/or other products JUST because they are "natural") will effectively treat or cure health problems may cause some people...
