What soapy thing have you done today?

Popsicle soaps! I will never forget to use mineral oil to line my silicone molds. I couldn’t get those dang things out the mold for 7. Popped them in the freezer and they finally came out. I scented them with WSP Summer Citrus. It’s an herbal citrus scent that smells nice. My WSP peach...

Link to fat and oil properties.

I would ask what are you looking for in a soap. Cleansing, mild, lots of bubbles and figure out which fatty acids will get you those results.

    Washing tips?

I wear my gloves when washing.

Link to fat and oil properties.

I recently started using 33% lye concentration and prefer it that way. There isn’t a complete list of oil properties. WSP has a good list though. What exactly are you looking for in a soap? Numbers aren’t everything. Also, @DeeAnna has a wonderful website for beginners.

Can anyone explain the "Superfat % should be 1/2 of the Cleansing number" rule?

I base my super fat on my cleansing number but I don’t have a set calculation for it. If I use 15% coconut oil I use 3% super fat, but it’s not a hard a calculation. I just figure the lower the number the less super fat I need and a higher super fat would translate to less bubbles. My 25%...

I wash everything as I go with dawn dish soap.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I used to be a huge Lushie back in the day. I used to spend a lot of money there. I slowly weaned myself off the addiction.

    Stick blender questions

What do you mean by no water added? I would certainly start with the lowest setting and only do 2-3 second bursts at a time. It’s very easy to over do it. I blend to get to emulsion and that’s it. I’m rarely using my stick blender these days. I’ll hand stir until emulsion unless I’m tired or...

    Rocky Mountain soap

I use 8% super fat with my recipe that contains 25% coconut oil. I love it.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Great advice. I was hard headed and didn’t even try a tried and true recipe. I spent hours researching each ingredient and the properties of a good soap. I knew what oils I wanted to use and learned to read a soap calc. I even used colors and fragrance with my first batch. I’m a rebel though and...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Hi! The beginner forum has several pinned posts to learn how to make soap. Thank you so much. Mom wanted some red soaps so I decided to try the color scheme.

Tricks for getting fragrance out of silicone?

Don’t worry about it. I’ll even use the mold that still has FO smell and it hasn’t transferred to the soap at all. I had one silicone mold that smelled strongly like Rosemary lemon and I used a lime citrus blend that was lighter. It didn’t transfer to the soap.

Tricks for getting fragrance out of silicone?

Normally the scent will dissipate after a while. I’ve had some strong FO’s in silicone molds and after about a week the scent was gone.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yup. I got the bare minimum when starting out. One spatula, one spoon and I only used 3 pigments when I started soaping too. Blue, yellow and red. Everything for soaping could easily fit in one box. Now I have two large shelves full of soaping and fiber dyeing supplies. I made popsicle soaps...

How can I tell if a batch wasn't emulsified?

Probably just needs a little more time in the mold to harden up.

What % do you keep for white with ombre pour?

One person split their batter 40% white and 60% color. Is there anyway you could just color half your batter and then add whatever color you need to the rest of the batter as you go?

What soapy thing have you done today?

It should be the same thing.

I’m pretty sure it’s the white sparkle mica from WSP that made it shine like that. I love the effect
