    Micas running down shower wall.

How much mica are you using and what way are you determining the amount of mica to use. Most mica sellers who deal with soap makers give you a recommended amount of the particular mica to use per pound of oil. It usually falls between 1-2 tsps per pound of oil. Also where did you buy your mica...

    Another question about gel

I use heating pads below and on top of my molds. My soap starts around 85°F and I let it warm up to 150°F. It generally takes 2-3 hours for my soap to reach 150°F but depends on which FO I am using. I force gell all my soaps this way.

    Color of soap

If your soap gets hot enough it will go through a gell phase and that can change the color of your soap.

Homemade Vanilla color stabilizer (VCS) summary

Yes you can heat it and it will help it dissolve. Sometimes there will be a little at the bottom even when you heat it up. Just crush them and they will dissolve the rest of the way. Let me know if that helps.

    Organic Pure Oil

You will always run a risk when you buy a product like oil from eBay, etsy or Amazon unless they are selling a well known brand. Because many oils can look the same and you won't know what you are getting. I have never heard of that company before but I buy all my oils from proven retailers with...

Bentonite & ball clay soap test "

That looks like a partial gell. Your soap got hot in the middle and not on the sides and that can cause the very condition that you have. The clay could have played a part but I don't really know. I force my soap through the gell phase by wrapping up the mold in heating pads and towels in order...

Layer of oil on top of the soap

Can you share the exact recipe that you used? It would be very helpful if you could. Having drained that much oil out of the batch, you may have a chance of having to much lye and not enough oil and therefore it would make the soap unusable but we can't know for sure without the full recipe.

Help needed with my first attempt

You have a lot of olive oil and with 5% SF it can take a long time for the soap to harden and even longer to cure. Did you use any sodium lactate or salt to help the hardening process? If not you might want to consider using some, especially if you are going to continue to use that much olive...

    Most difficult to make

Thanks Thanks I used fruit rings from natures garden and it really does smell like fruit loops and since I didn't want to make little loops, I just went with the confetti. I was going to use some white mica but I'm glad I didn't because it came out fine.

I did not even think about that. That is awesome. I'm going to change it right now. Thanks

    Most difficult to make

I didn't use any colorants in this soap and that was the hardest thing I have ever done. Lol! Even with the colorful confetti, I still wanted to add some color. The soap reminds me of the little bits of broken fruit loops when you reach the bottom of the box. But that is hard to put in the name.

    Infusion

First you are going to need tea bags or some very small micron bags to put those powders in. Using the tea bags will make it much easier when the infusion is done. If you can't get unused tea bags where you are or you don't want to use them, then you will need a coffee filter to run your...

Once you go Lard - you never go back

I get my lard at Walmart most of the time but the dollar general store has it cheaper but it comes in 1 pound blocks. I save a $1 per 4 pounds of lard, compared to Walmart and it is the same brand.

    Gelling vs no gelling

Sorry for the confusion. Room temperature can be ok if you use towels or some other kind of insulation around your soap. Since you are using honey and or milk, you may not need the towels because it can get pretty hot on its own. You can cover it with a towel or two to start with and then check...

    Gelling vs no gelling

Yes it is possible to achieve gelling with just towels. But a lot depends on the ingredients that you are using and the temperature that you start with. For example, the recipe that I use would probably never gell completely or I would get a partial gell in the middle if I didn't use an external...

    Vanilla Stabilizer affecting scent?

Yes there are 2 VCS's for soap making. I have never used the one for MP or seen it in person but I believe it is just sodium thiosulfate. The one that I helped make is just for CP soap making. Does your VCS have a sulfer/acrid smell? If it does then you have the CP VCS. If it has no smell then...

    Shea Nut Oil

It depends on which shea oil that you have because there are 2. One is called shea 50, Shea WS (water soluble) or PEG-50 Shea. These are all the same kind and are soluble in water or oil. The other one is just shea nut oil and it is only soluble in oil. They both can be used in soap but the...
