Embrace the random, unusual and quirky

I don't decide my theme or colors until my oils are melted and cooling. I just pick the colors and basic theme and go from there.

Embrace the random, unusual and quirky

Wether you look at the glass as half empty or half full, the real question you should ask yourself is, how thirsty are you?

    Can you see the fish?

Thanks. I didn't know if the illusion would work or not. I saw an old Japanese painting and this is what the koi in the painting looked like. I love the ancient Japanese painting style. It looks so simple but in reality it's very complicated. I tried repeating the way they make waves but it...

    Can you see the fish?

Can you see the fish swimming around in the blue water? They were supposed to look like koi fish but the gold in the confetti that I used didn't come through like I thought it would. Oh well, the Zen came through in the soap, so I am happy.

Thanks. I'm really glad that I made a good soap first because it has resulted in some very brisk selling. I get 2 or 3 emails every day from people wanting to try the soap. The most rewarding part is when I here from people who are sensitive to many chemicals and they are so glad to have a soap...

    Not sure of the cause

That was my first thought but I pay special attention to the corners because I had some leftover one time and since then I use isopropyl alcohol to clean the corners and the whole mold before I use it.

    Not sure of the cause

That area just had confetti in it, no coloring. However I agree with @DeeAnna that it is a gelling failure.

    Not sure of the cause

The cropped out corner looks the same. If I would have took a picture before I cut the soap, you would have seen in the dead center of the soap that it had no problems. It was only as you got closer to the ends did it get worse. When it first happened a few months ago, I thought it was the...

Trying to narrow down my ricing problem

I'm just going to reiterate what the others have said. Have you read the reviews for the FO's and does your FO suppliers do there own testing of their FO's in soap? I used to buy any FO that said that it was OK for soap but I ran into way too many problems that could have been avoided if there...

    Not sure of the cause

I do use silicone molds. I wash them with sudsy water, dry them and then I use isopropyl alcohol and wipe them down before I use them. That is a common thread that I thought about but didn't think that it was the cause of it. However since you are mentioning it, I am going to give it more...

    Not sure of the cause

I'm not sure what is causing this problem that I have circled. I have had it happen before and I can't seem to find a common thread to connect each time it happened. I force gell all of my soaps and it doesn't happen every time. I thought it was vanillin discoloration but it has happened in soap...

Embrace the random, unusual and quirky

Thanks. I wasn't down playing myself. Because I have found a way to overcome my lack of natural artistic talent. I just wanted to give some encouragement and help to those who may be struggling with creating some of the design ideas that they have in their mind. That there is a way to create...

Here's the link to the one I use. It's the best one I have found so far, IMO. it allows you to move around the position of the colors, with a lot of other options. It's hard to create some of the colors because you just can't get soap colors to be that bright, even with gelling. Plus the color...

Embrace the random, unusual and quirky

I literally plan my color scheme or design when I get up in the morning. Actually I spend about 10 minutes the night before looking at different color match ups in an app that I have. Then in the morning while I am weighing out everything, I decide how I want to layer the colors.

    My new garden baby

Sorry, I was talking just about the vanilla orchid and I got my information from a short documentary about the loss of vanilla orchids in the wild. It was very interesting to learn how much damage is being done by plant collectors.

Embrace the random, unusual and quirky

This is some encouragement for people new to making soap and like me, they are not a natural artist. I looked at the beautiful soap swirls and complicated designs that looked like paintings instead of soap. I found it very difficult in the beginning to make any swirl let alone some of the more...

    My new garden baby

Good luck, orchids are difficult on a good day and horrible on a bad day. One of the most difficult things when growing orchids is getting the humidity right. They are closely related to Bromeliads (air plants) and the humidity is very important.

    Soap expanded in the mold?!

The thing about making soap is that, even if you use the same recipe, you can still have a different result. However, I would not consider what happened to your soap, out of the ordinary. What type of mold did you use?

    Décadence

Did you use water to dissolve the soap in? If you have, then you may be required to have a preservative in it. I don't know if you fall under EU rules or just German but you might want to check in to that answer. I may be completely wrong but I'm just suggesting a possible problem.

    Soap expanded in the mold?!

Your complete recipe would help us figure out what went wrong but I will give you a general answer. Was your mold silicone and was it inside a wood box? Because soap can expand when it gets hot and if your mold sides are unsupported, then it will go sideways instead of up. My soap expands just...
