Trial by Fire Mica from Nurture

I just got this last week but I haven’t used it yet. I’ve always found red so intimidating lol

    C3 soy wax in soap?

Thank you 😊 C3 has soy based additives as well— I’m not sure the exact percentage. I think 444 may have a higher melt point but I don’t have experience with it. I’ve used between 2-8% C3 in my last 5 small batches to see how it would perform. I was nervous that using a lot would trace very...

    C3 soy wax in soap?

I’ve been using C3 soy wax in my vegan soap because it’s the only soy wax I have on hand besides 464. I wasn’t sure if there was a reason that I shouldn’t use it? Are the soy based additives detrimental to the soap?

    Preventing ash after cutting

I notice for me that apart from gelling and covering etc. that the curing environment matters. I live in New England and it’s not particularly extra humid here but if I cure on a rack in my basement within weeks I’ll have powdery ash all over my bars. I have a huge dehumidifier down there and...

    Lemonade Soap

Very nice! I love the swirl. My Irish fam calls it Lemonade too—unless there’s vodka in it lol.

    CPOP + Condensation?

I’m thinking that’s the case. Hopefully it cures out or I’ll be making a lot of blackberry candles lol

    CPOP + Condensation?

So kind of off topic but this same soap has a strange smell—an underlying plasticky scent almost. Could that be from CPOPing in a silicone mold? I didn’t go over 170 but it may have gotten hot. I used my Nurture 6inch silicons slab. This happened once before but I thought it was my fragrance oil...

    Bitter Creek Candle Supply

I got Irish Whiskey to make a Hot Toddy candle and wow😳....it’s exactly like Jameson. So much like the actual thing that I had a hard time blending it. I’ve always wanted to tryout more things but never got around to it. I’m curious about their Hinoki FO.

    CPOP + Condensation?

    Thanks I had no idea.

    CPOP + Condensation?

I did a batch of soap at 31% lye concentration and threw it in the oven at 170F with cling wrap. Now after gelling and sitting a few hours I’m noticing condensation collecting on the film and falling a bit on the soap....is that a thing? I guess I’ve never noticed it before...Wondering if this...

    Fit of conscience

I’ve only had to deal with their customer service once due to an order that was severely damaged during shipping. I was promptly offered a refund or my choice of other soaps. I thought the service was excellent for what I needed at the time. Hopefully they’ll correct the issue. Glad someone...

    Adding flowers

I don’t do botanicals on soap. It gives me the sensory heebs having to deal with them. 🤢

    Help me identify these spots!

I reduced mine by covering and CPOPing. I still get some ash if I cure in my basement—even with a dehumidifier but it’s not as bad.

    Help me identify these spots!

First one. Where the arrows are. That’s what I get when I unmold too early or if I don’t cover the mold. They almost look like spots of frost usually near the lower edges.

    Help me identify these spots!

Looks like some of the ash I get if I unmold a little too soon.

August 2020 SMF Challenge - Zig Zag Cosmic Wave Technique Entry Thread

My entry. Scented with Earl Grey FO from Mad Oils. Colorants: Tennis Ball Breaker (MM), Bright Yellow Raincoat (MM), Indigo (NS), French Green Clay (NS). While I had a few fails, I also had some attempts that I loved. I chose this one because it had the nicest contrast as well as the exaggerated...

Thanks! I love that fragrance so much and I was so impatient to use these new colors 😊

    Long lasting bar

That’s super interesting—I never had thought about the shower poof. Are those generally recommended to extend the life of a bar of soap? I use my soap directly on my skin and I’m wondering if a shower poof is a better way to test?
