Close to giving up soap making

I got into soaping after tons of research and reading. It’s all trial and error and what works for others may not work for your skin. I tried a 100% coconut bar with a 20% SF that I made a couple months ago in the shower today and my skin did not like it one bit! Now I know. Write everything...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thank you. It’s all the same soap. I don’t get a lot of natural light in my kitchen so I took a pic outside too.😊

    Oatmeal Milk and Honey

I use Oatmeal n' Honey from Crafters Choice. WSP just had a big sale so I stocked up. Theres no almond notes at all though It may be slightly more oatmeal cookie like than some prefer. It does indeed discolor but the scent is strong and doesn't fade or morph.

Thanks. I’ll throw a liner on there 😊

The rack is stainless steel—is metal contamination still a factor?

    DOS?

Thanks. What are you supposed to store it on? Untreated wood? I get the aluminum foil—that was just temporarily placed and didn’t linger there. I thought some metal racks were ok?

What soapy thing have you done today?

I’m kind of obsessed with coffee scrub bars. My first batch was great but I made it before I knew about upping palmitic/stearic % to make the soap longer lasting. So while my first batch was great they didn’t last very long. I’ve since tweaked my palm free/vegan recipe to up the longevity. Made...

    DOS?

Just wanted an opinion on this. I made Genny’s Shampoo bar this past Saturday with a few tweaks due to what I had on hand. The only additions was Apricot Kernel and a little mango butter, Rose clay and honey. The only thing I haven’t used before was the apricot kernel which I bought 2-3 months...

    30% Off all Fragrance Oils

I got some samples to try out some fun soaps for my kids (Dreamisicle EO/FO, Confetti Cake, Fruit Loops). Stocked up on big bottles of my favorites Espresso and Oatmeal n’ Honey. I didn’t go too far down the seasonal rabbit hole...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Welp. I tried my hand at HP for the first time. I did a modified small batch version of Genny’s Shampoo bar. I think I let it get slightly too hot at 220F. It was honestly rather ok but I flew too close to the sun when it came to adding the additives when it cooled. Too much honey perhaps. 2...

    Coconut oil - where buy?

I get mine from Jedwards because I can pick up from them (when not in pandemic mode). I don’t know if it’s the most cost effective but I absolutely love the quality of their products.

    Best place to buy lye?

I went with 32lbs from Essential Depot and it seemed pretty reasonable at the time.

Palm oil grainy even when fully melted and mixed?

Is palm an oil that benefits from tempering? Maybe try that? Just spitballing here as I don’t know how palm behaves.

How to discard this terrible soap

My Castile took almost a week to unmold and I did a 40% lye concentration at 125F-130F. It never reached a real trace either. Besides a bit too much of a SF it’s a lovely bar but needs more cure time. It’s only been about 3ish months maybe.
