What soapy thing have you done today?

Tried making beer soap. Walked away from it singing "And I know things now many valuable things". Boil your beer. I found a thread afterwards that explained the alcohol will make the soap to seize. Good thing I had a slow moving recipe cause as is I barely had time to put it in the mold once I...

SMF November 2024 Challenge - Hello Yellow!

I'm loving all the entries so far! You guys are amazing. I can't wait to see everyone else's. The fates have worked against me this month. I tried to get yellow today and ended up with orange. We'll see what happens tomorrow when I unmold. 🤞

    Just some guy's soaps

@justsomeguy mine took a few days and slowly turned brown over a few weeks. 🤞 Hopefully the same happens for you!

Options for saving a badly accelerated / seized soap (not lye-heavy)

@Delorean if you are only doing 1 color and the ciaglia method you should be fine to dump the color in with your oils and shreds. For multiple colors I premix with some of my oils and once trace is reached I divide out and mix the colors in by hand or SB depending on how fast the recipe moves...

    Bookworm soaps

That's the rebatched soap I made a few weeks ago. It smells lovely but suffered the same problem as my plaid soap. Too many poppy seeds! Turns out 1% of oil weight is too much for my skin. Now I'm waiting to see if my ciaglia hits the sweet spot for poppy seed amount 🤞. If so then I guess I get...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Found out my scrubby plaid soap from a few months ago was just too scrubby 😭. So decided to grate it up and try making some ciaglia soap to cut down the scrubbyness. Gonna give it few days before I try using it. Pictures here

    Bookworm soaps

My first attempt at ciaglia and a layered soap. I've decided I have a hard time doing only 1 new thing at a time. 😂 Thought it was cool how different the outside and inside turned out

    New Recipe Help

I think it depends on the kind of lather you want. Butters lather but I've found the lather to be the dense creamy kind. My family prefers the big bubbles like what you get with dove bars. It been a trial making soap they think lathers enough. Edit to add: here is a video that shows how some...

Options for saving a badly accelerated / seized soap (not lye-heavy)

Here is a link for how to oven rebatch as well as crockpot rebatch. It's worked well for me. I've never tried adding salt to a rebatch but you might be able to if you disolved the salt in the water before adding it to the rebatch. Someone more experienced might have a better idea. When in doubt...

    New Recipe Help

You're recipe looks good to me. Coconut oil is a little high for me but that's just personal preference and you won't know yours until you make and try a batch. I will say you will probably need that high of coconut oil if you want a big lather since butters like shea and cocoa tend to kill big...
