    Bubbles vs. Lather

If you are wanting more lather in your recipe look for "creamy" numbers from the fatty acid profile rather than "bubbly" numbers. Creamy is the sum of Palmetic, Stearic and Ricinoleic acids while Bubbly is the sum of Lauric, Myristic and Ricinoleic acids. Choose your oils wisely.;)

    Soy Wax Users

Bars with 444 cut this morning ( at 18 hours) and we have suds! The soap was too young to do anything with but my gloves lathered when I washed them off. The experiment now goes into the curing process....

    Soy Wax Users

I have a batch made with 444 in the mold just for testing ( made on pi day). I'll compare it to the batch made with 415 on the 5th.

    Issue with cutting

Each recipe will "set up" differently than the others. It's part of what makes this an art. I was baby sitting a loaf of salt soap yesterday that just did NOT want to set hard enough to cut. Most of the time that recipe goes very quickly ( 2 hours or so). This one had a different scent and just...

What Do You Like About Salt Bars?

Easy. I have boxes full of soap and soap from a swap or two. We can only use so much soap.

What Do You Like About Salt Bars?

One more thing to like about salt bars.... Mixing was started two and a half hours before the pictures were taken. Recipe: 100 % coconut oil 100% salt ( by weight of oil) 2.5 : 1 water to alkali ratio (high water) Drop swirl.

    what i did yesterday

Too high or too thin. I'm thinking too thin. There's a tricky thing to the drop swirl stuff. Those are VERY nice looking!! Can you do it again? ( repeatability is my problem)

    Starting My Soaping Journey

I would leave #3 on your list and just add an equal amount of fine grained salt to oil into the recipe. Salt Bars! Just don't walk away for a few hours and come back to cut them. That recipe will set up hard in an hour or two. Cure time is LONG but well worth it. Congratulations on successfully...

Citric Acid in Zany's no slime castile?

Our local health food grocery store sells citric acid in bulk ( hint for finding it). I use a clean pan to start reducing on low heat and once it gets thick ( rice pudding) I switch over to a parchment lined cake pan or other ridged oven sheet. When it's dry I carefully break it into the...
