    Coronavirus

I'm wondering how long I have to shelter in place. When the order came the wife was outside and she's getting really MAD. Should I let her in?

    Coronavirus

Call it what you want. When I can be arrested for going about my normal life I will call it tyranny. I will do what I can to not contract or spread this virus. I will not participate in the panic.

    Hobby Lobby today....

Mom would say "only boring people are bored" and then wait to see if you found something to do or if ya "needed help".

Our soap and the Corona Virus

The folks at mu local Ace Hardware will get lye from the back room for me. Then wait at the cash register to see how many bars of soap I brought with me.:D:thumbs: It's not bribery, I swear...

    Have you ever....

Our outdoor dog insisted on getting in the house one year. He went straight over to the unfound Easter egg and out with it. That was the first and last time Mom let us hide them in the house. I *think* I know where all the soap batches are. But then again I have tripped over a shoe box once or...

Our soap and the Corona Virus

I was taught the 20 second rule by a front line army medic named Dad. Lather well and then clean from wrist to finger tips. I can't remember how old I was but I do know I couldn't read or write when he taught me.

    Coronavirus

Keep treating your COPD as usual and take care of yourself. Your meds can cause the sore throat - mine do at times. Nothing too unusual there. On another topic - the distillery 50 miles away has switched to making sanitizers that smell just like the vodka they usually make. They are giving out...

    Coronavirus

Stay calm. Follow clean habits. Wash often. Cleanliness is next to nothing. It is it's own reward. Eat healthy foods. Get enough rest. Follow your belief system whatever that is. Practice random acts of kindness especially in these stressful times. Now is when we should be sharing what we can...

    Hobby Lobby today....

Not me but DW Jan has a very nice stash. She does finger weaving ( native American tradition) and baskets ( same) and always has at least one project going. She stocks enough yarn to last her a year. I need to get a stash of lye... We both also have outdoor hobbies and live remote enough that...

Our soap and the Corona Virus

I grind flour, grew up cutting meat and have the garden under grow lights getting started. I am the "go to guy" for some of the folks at the range when they need parts...

    Coronavirus

My son the chef got laid off today. He will still get his salary BUT the many servers and prep cook will not. Portland Oregon currently has a no evict and no shut off for utilities but for how long? Both of our daughters work in or with the education system here in the IS and will probably be...

Our soap and the Corona Virus

Soap - check. I just *might* have a little extra. Pantry.... Yup. It takes us an hour to get to the store so we have a pantry. We *might* be the "preppers" next door to our neighbors. I just watched what my grandparents and parents did and followed suit when I came of age. We called it self...

    Coronavirus

Businesses, Banks, schools, all outside programs at correctional facilities are cancelled and several churches are closed because of the flu. WHY? Viral pneumonia will most likely kill me if I get it. But it won't matter which virus laid the groundwork for it. This one is only a little different...

    First Time Salt Bar

Watch every batch of salt bars!! I made the mistake of waiting overnight to cut my first salt bars. Cut the batch with a hack saw. Not doing that again!!!:beatinghead:

    low-water vs high-water

https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/smf-december-challenge-high-and-low-water-batch.57559/ This was an interesting challenge and I think you'll find the info contained in it interesting. It was for me at the time... The gelling stuff is also related directly to water content ( besides the...

    Frost like soda ash?

Possibly a mixture of stearic spots and ash. Hopefully one of the members smarter than me will see this and let us know...

Charcoal Soap has chalky white film ?

Ash. It'll rinse right off the soap when it comes time to start using it. I have come to expect a little ash with my favorite recipes. Shows up more on the darker soaps but is still there on the white ones.

    Soleselfie/ brine soap question

The sodium hydroxide takes the water and the salt precipitates out of solution. In simpler terms - you get salt crystals in your liquid and thus in your soap. Sodium hydroxide has a stronger bond with the water than salt ( sodium chloride in this case) so it will use the water before the salt...

is CP and CPOP comparable ?

Wine and soap CAN be used once the process is complete. ( fermentation or saponification) Both are much better after a proper cure. Good wine and good soap improve with age.
