    Dragon’s Blood

@ScentimentallyYours I know! I was shocked myself. When I bought it in 2021, I paid $8.76 for the 3.3 oz bottle. From what I understand cinnamon was used to make a note similar to vanilla. And that is why many fragrances usage rates dropped. My only guess is that they may have substituted...

    Dragon’s Blood

I have only used and bought the one from New Direction aromatics, which with the new IFRA rules had to be reformulated and the price has gone up quite a bit. I have not purchased the new one though. I had someone reach out to me to see if I had more soap with that fragrance, he had bought a...

    Frankincense EO in CP Soap

It seems it can be used up to 5% for strong scent, per eocalc, 4% for the level before that. They calculate it with the carterii variety though.

    Silicone Molds and high flames

what is the fragrance percentage you are using? I am not experienced myself in candle making, but I saw a picture in a group recently, that showed two lit candles, With 8% and 10% FO percentage; side by side. The 10% made a much larger flame.

    EOcalc

Doing the math 3% is 29.3. However it could be that Eo calc is calculation the safe percentage, Star anise sounds like an EO that could be a skin irritant

Personal Protection Equipment for bath bomb making

If you are using slsa or anything similar, a respirator instead of a mask, is what is best, they have a tight seal around the nose and filters.

Thread titles and my very strange mind.

making harder soap methods; adjusting water to oil ratio? I always thought hot process was a hard method, being time consuming, etc. you could make it harder I suppose by making it on a firepit outdoors instead on using electricity. Using less water will make it more difficult to cook evenly...

    EO/FO blends

I was a bit disappointed by the smell of labdanum, to me it smells somewhat like licorice but once blended with other notes, not as much. I bought it from Amazon, I think. (It was a link from a “Humblebee and me” recipe that no longer works) I did like the smell of the resin that is supposed...

    EO/FO blends

I have not made that particular blend (bergamot, lavender and cedarwood), but it sounds nice. I only have the Texas cedarwood which is actually cypress if I remember well, so it is not the same. The blends you made sound nice! I need to remember to Try them next time I venture on perfume...

have liquid glycerine - how to use it to make soap

I don’t think it is possible To make soap out of glycerine, it is the other way around, Glycerine is a byproduct of the process of making soap, for which you need oils, lye and water. ”Glycerin soap” is a misnomer, glycerin being only a small ingredient of it, and that term is often used to...

Husband just got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

So sorry to hear that! Just today this came up on my TikTok feed, about why there is an increased diagnosis of that. I haven’t researched it yet but made sense.

Custom soap stamps vs. silicone molds?

I have done both (silicone molds and stamps) having a stamp made would be a lot less expensive. To make a mold they would need to make 6 models with the phrase, and the cost of silicone has increased a lot lately.

    Weight of dissolved lye

If the container is not covered, then the weight will change from the lye reacting with oxygen and creating what we know as lye lint/ soda ash. I saw a video of Kevin Dunn showing this during a seminar but do not remember if the weight increased or decreased.

    Identity theft from...an old landlord?

When this happened to a very close family member, because they had identity theft protection insurance, that company was able to handle most of the fraudulent accounts. (Whatever was known at that point, they just had to give them power of attorney for that specific function). They did freeze...

How long have you been soaping? Or Happy Soap-A-Versary to me

I started making soap in 2017. This is one of the oldest pictures I have found and they might be the first soaps. I remember it was Uncolored and unfragranced, and it took a while to harden because I was using old lye, unbeknown to me at the time. I had bought supplies from someone in...

    Long spout pitchers

I have thought of using a plastic watering can, as some designs resemble the long spout pitchers. I have two sizes of the standard long spout pitchers, it seems they were made for baking so their size options are limited.

Can you Help Me With My First Lotion/Cream Attempt ?

For the preservatives selection, I would suggest reading this page, in addition to knowing the ph range, you also need to know if those preservatives are broad spectrum, if they work against a bacteria and/or fungus or both. The extracts (blueberry and wheatgerm) would be “food” for any...
