Spiky growth on soap. What is it?

    Unfortunately no 😭

What soapy thing have you done today?

I experimented with the Ciaglia technique after a spectacularly failed salt soap. 😭 Thanks @AliOop, @Ekuzo, @2lilboots, and @bookworm42 for diagnosing the reason for the failure and helping me figure out a solution. The ciaglia’d soap more closely resembles what I was trying to obtain. Now just...

Spiky growth on soap. What is it?

What’s this and is it purely cosmetic? This batch of soap was from my early efforts. I don’t have this issue with subsequent efforts.

Thanks for the link!! I was just doing some searching about rebatching. I had fears about oven processing so I’ll have tho check that link out! Question- this soap I’m gong to rematch is too soft to grate. It probably didn’t have enough lye to properly suponiry. Do I need to combine it with...

    Scaling up your recipe

Yeah - I've was just thinking about that. My "bad soap" box is overflowing now. But I don't have a pot or a slow cooker that's dedicated to soap. They should be dedicated to soap...right?

    Scaling up your recipe

Yeah, I think it had something to do with how much lye I didn’t add to the soap. I should’ve been able to spot it myself, but sometimes you need an extra set of eyes. Thanks!

    goat milk powder

Good luck with that glass of wine. I could actually use one right now! But going back to peanut butter soap, I just can’t erase the vision in my head from the Anne Margaret scene in the movie Tommy where she’s covered with all kinds of food products in a bathtub.

    Scaling up your recipe

Hummm, you make a lot of good points but shouldn't the soap calc make the adjustment? Now that I'm thinking about it, I've had the same problem before when I tried to scale a recipe to this specific large mold. Maybe if I look up the manual way to calc the lye I'd have better success? Good...

    Scaling up your recipe

I use sodium citrate I hadn’t noticed the difference with the lye. And I had thought somehow there was a problem with the lye that I didn’t catch.

    Scaling up your recipe

I have a recipe that I really like and I wanted to scale it up a salt soap recipe that proves very successful. The photographs show you the small batch and the large batch recipes. The large batch still hasn’t hardened and it’s been more than 24 hours. It’s soft, and there’s a lot of...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I thought I was so special today! Intended to make a large (for me) batch of salt soap made with paprika infused OO! I also was trying to figure out how to use 40x aloe powder. (yes, should be simple but I can't do ANYTHING past basic math. Percentages and ratios make my head spin. And not it a...

Excel Spreadsheet for changing drops into grams

I got this conversion excel sheet from somewhere a while back. The darn thing isn't working now. Anyone see the original or know how to fix it? Column D1 and and D8 should be the same. :-(

    How do you increase bubbles?

About 4 weeks. Still new at soaping and have an impatient problem. I’ll experiment a bit at a time as you suggested. Make a small batch just changing the coconut oil and the castor percentages. Another batch with changing the castor oil and CO percentages and adding additional sugar. Next batch...
