    Masterbatching Lye

As Alison said above. I usually masterbatched 4 gallons at a time. Two gallons with silk cocoons added and two without.

Raw or Pasteurized Goat Milk Lotion?

The microbial test kits can be a good starting place but absolutely do not replace lab testing. I did use them for initial testing, if my lotions failed the test kit I did not send them out to a lab for further testing. Arnica was my biggest nightmare test in lotion that I never could get to...

Fungus on top my honey and oatmeal soap

I am another who never decorated my soaps with botanicals or foods. When I used avocado, carrot, cucumber, fresh aloe, etc in soap I finely prueed it before adding it to my soap. Also, as far as oatmeal, I used oat flour, which was abrasive enough for all my customers in their soaps. Whole oats...

    My New Toy

If you like to make bread the Ank is really nice. I am not sure I would have bought it just because of all the issues this year, but I am loving it, but will be keeping my Kitchen Aid for some things.

Raw or Pasteurized Goat Milk Lotion?

Absolutely not and would not purchase handmade milk lotions due to the difficulty of preserving them. I also would not trust Optiphen for preserving a milk lotion, even phenonip has a hard time preserving milk lotions. If I were going to make and sell a milk lotion I would send it out for...

    What are these dots?

I agree it could be your wire cutter, or your cocoa butter and/ or shea butter were not melted down enough. Also if you used fresh aloe it can leave specks but usually not a consistent size which is why I am going with the wire cutter and small bubbles.

    My New Toy

It is a Swedish-made mixer. Ankarsrum has been making them since 1940 and has not changed the design. They are really great for bread but not so good for really heavy cookie doughs. You can read about them here https://www.ankarsrum.com/

    My New Toy

I guess my oldest loves me. This is what I got for Mommy's Day. Actually, my daughter purchased it for herself but she really wanted a red one and she just found one refurbished on the Ankarsrum site so she gave me the silver one she purchased two weeks ago. Yeah for me. :dance:I will not get...

    Soapee

Thank you Deanna. If I ever get back to shaping I will check it out. Of course I have all my formulas so really do not need a calc just to make my own soap.

    Yummy Breakfast

We just got home last night from our new house and I returned with 5 dozen fresh eggs from Autumn's chickens. For breakfast this morning we are having hash made with fresh Chorizo, and fresh sourdough tortillas I just made. Yummy Yummy!! My oldest daughter and I made a large batch of Chorizo a...

Tussah Silk and Ice water lye solution

I always purchased my silk in cocoons from Aliexpress and just dropped how many I wanted to dissolve in Hot lye solution. They simply will not dissolve in cold solutions. https://tinyurl.com/yc2ej2by

    Neat Way to Pour?

My thoughts exactly. If I ever make soap again I am going to try it. I have poured over a thick dowel and it makes a similar design but this looks like fun.

    Neat Way to Pour?

While this is not a soap video, it could be a fun way to pour in a square mold or even a loaf mold by moving the bottle.

    Transporting soap

I stored and transported my soaps in these totes. I would get around 55-60 bars in the totes. Granted they were heavy and I usually took 4 totes with me but my hubby did go with me. FYI, I could carry them myself. I will note all my soaps were shrink-wrapped and labeled. I also used these totes...

    Oakmoss Blues

I used to mix my Oakmoss with Lemongrass, or May Chang. Since Jojoba is essentially a wax I never thought Zany's method would work. I may have depended on her brand of Oakmoss, my Oakmoss was very resinous, although one time I purchased one brand that was more liquid. I never thought the...

    what are these spots?

You mention you embrace the discoloration but I am curious why you would mix the vanilla fo with the lavender portion of your soap. Vanilla usually goes very dark unless you purchase a non-discoloring vanilla. What I always did with my discoloring fo's such as my Dragon's Blood I separated my...

    Bathroom tile/tub replacement issues

We have this done in three bathrooms, but we have a person who does a wonderful job and I have been happy with it. In the house I am in, I had the tile all around the tub sprayed and the full shower done in the other bathroom. I like it better than the original tile and the grout is sealed. I...

    Hard oil help!

In the first batch, I only added in BHT otherwise I made the batch per Cee's instructions. That is the batch that went dossy around the 8-month or so point. On the second try, I added in my EDTA/SG combination along with BHT and Sorbitol it did not acquire DOS but I still did not like the soap...
