I have made soap balls by grating my soap with a salad shooter I bought at Goodwill really cheap. I then put the shreds in a zip lot sprinkled with water and let them sit 1-3 days depending on how dry the shreds are, then I form the soap balls.

Depending on your lye concentration, it can commonly happen, and adding citric acid contributes to the thickening. With my master batch at 50%, my lye is always cloudy, but I do not add any additives to it, so it does not get thick. I add all additives separately.

You would be much better off with Babassu oil for the antibacterial properties and higher MH. I like at least 40% MH which will also soften the mixture, and approx 30% Babassu.
