Calling all lardinators! Why do you love lard-based soaps? 🐖

Besides the tendancy to slow trace and adding a great creamy lather, it has quality I can only describe as body. Palm has a similiar lather but the bidy seems weak or thin while lard if full, more substantial in a way. It adds good longevity, is mild to the skin, cheap and easily accessible. My...

First batch cut - Now have questions please before I make a 2nd batch

I couldn't understand why your soap went crumbly while mixing but I bet it seized then went into full gel in the bowl. I'm thinking it was a reaction to the aluminum. Did you see the soap turn greyish at all before you added the cocoa? I do wonder if this soap is safe to use if there was a...

    Body butter help

Thank you, that does look nice. I tried a cream with lard once, really liked it but for some reason it made me itch. I haven't decided what kind of oil to use with my cocoa butter yet, probably a sunflower/avocado blend since its what I have on hand.

    Body butter help

I wasn't expecting to need that much liquid oil, that would explain why my body butter never turns out lol. How spreadable is your tallow balm? like room temp margarine or refrigerated margarine?

How far into the future can DOS occur?

I've had DOS show up after 2 years. Could have been the recipe, could have been the storage. As far as water, you can use a britta pitcher and filter your tap water, doesn't have to be distilled.

    Body butter help

I want to make a simple body butter with just cocoa butter and a liquid oil. Any tips on the % of liquid oil to make a softer product that is easy to dip out of a tub?

Soap going rancid and I cannot figure out why.

I soaped for years before I started getting DOS about 4 years ago. I only make a few batches a year now but I've had to throw many out so I changed a few things. I originally replaced OO with safflower but have now went back to OO. I had been using the same cheap plastic mixing bowls forever...

Salt Bar Recipe - pulse check

Hard fats like butters, lard and palm actually inhibit lather. 100% coconut would make a good salt bar too but I like adding the OO to help longevity. I do scent my bars, I use around 6%. since they do best with a longer cure, the scent can fade, it also seems the salt kinda kills scent so make...

I'm getting some discoloration, really liking the brown and pink.

Salt Bar Recipe - pulse check

With salt bars, simple is better. I use either canning salt or a cheap sea salt. Coconut 80% Olive oil 20% Salt 35 %- 50%. I use 35%, most people use 50 or 100. Superfat 20% I generally make a single or maybe 2 color bar in cavity molds. Color, scent and separate before adding the salt. Hand...

When you don't have a 1 lb soap mold..

I do something similiar with a large wooden mold. I can move my little block where ever I need it before folding the paper liner.

    CP volcano

Pour it back in the bowl and stir it until it settles back down. If its already setting, you might need to rebatch.

    Hating Spiriluna!

I used spirulina for awhile, the ones that held color best were stored in the dark. Just as a experiment, I put a new bright green bar outside in the sun and it was faded to straw yellow within 4 hours. I switched to oxides and micas after that.

    My creepy spiders

A couple more. The one on the red cup is a mexican fire leg, she is just a baby. Once mature, her legs will be a vivid orange. The other is a golden blue leg baboon. They are a temperamental species with a more potent venom. Luckly they are shy and mostly run and hide
