    Lye 98 : 99 %

I used the lye flakes from Brambleberry without problem and they say they are 97% pure. Hopefully someone who's more experienced then me answers and knows more about it.

    I'm bummed

It was recommended to me to get the crock pot liners for a rebatch. None of the soap touched the crock at all. I'm not sure if that would work for HP.

Excited about making my first Tussah silk soap!

I recently gotten some tussah silk and I think my lye water has an almost floral smell with the silk in it. Glad that someone else thinks their lye water smells different.

    My soap

Technique might be giving me more credit then is due  I didn't use a divider. I accidentally let it go to a pretty heavy trace, so I poured it in alternately on each side, then gave it a swirl in the middle with a skewer. Using colorants is HARD! Much respect to all the soap makers out...

    My soap

It is NG Australian Bamboo Grass. I really like it a lot. Very clean smelling, a little masculine but not overtly so.

    My soap

Certainly not as beautiful as the soap I regularly see on here, and likely to make green bubbles, but I think it turned out alright! Now here's hoping it doesn't discolor or get ashy or do the one million other things it could do to get ugly as it cures...

So this is what happens when I get too impatient and cut too soon...

You just need to sell it. It's not a flaw, it's a feature! Quilted soap?

First Time Soapmaker - Please Help

My stick blender has the button you hold too. They really aren't made to be run continuously, you can burn out the motor. I use the stick blender for a couple seconds, turn it off and stir with it for a second, then check for trace. Wash, rinse, repeat.

    How not to mix colors

IMHO since it is the same in all the colors I think it looks like part of the design. Kind of reminds me of funfetti cupcakes or something.

    Oat flour?

I just tried this with my magic bullet. I used rolled oats, is that ok? It seemed to get it pretty fine. I haven't soaped with it yet. I've also heard a coffee grinder works.

    Hoping against hope

Thanks! If anything, I'll give rebatching a try. I think that may be the way to go. Hubby is nervous about this batch and I don't think he'll use it otherwise. He says I can have the slowcooker and we'll get a new one for cooking.

    Hoping against hope

I made it on the 13th, so I'll be patient a little longer. Would it be normal for the soap itself not to zap but still have lye crystals on the outsde?

    Hoping against hope

So, the other day I made some soap :p. I ran it through soap calc and everything looked good. I used half fresh aloe vera for the liquid, the rest water. After cutting, the cut sides were...sweating. Since I had just taken it out of the refrigerator I thought it was condensation. But now it...

Gelling & Ashiness - How To Avoid

I had ash on my first 2 batches of soap. I bought some 91% isopropyl alcohol and an inexpensive spray bottle from target. I now mist my soap with the alcohol right after I pour, and usually once or twice more in the first few hours and I have not gotten ash since ( 4 batches)
