    I suffer from DDM

Otherwise known as dreaded drag marks. I just can't help it, the soap sits there, so...soapy...just calling my name. I can't resist. Look at it, mocking me: I waited a WHOLE FORTY-EIGHT HOURS to cut this soap. It nearly killed me. Fragranced with NG Fresh Linen. And cut with LOVE, gosh...

    Cutting too soon

My problem is that even 24 hours is too soon. Ungelled soaps in my silicone mold should probably wait 3 days...i just don't have that kind of willpower. I have a loaf calling my name right now...must...resist...

Do as I say, not as I do

soooo....it looks like I made soap! No funny weepy bits, or chunks or anything too suspicious. The congealed lye ball seems to have worked! HOWEVER the soap did do something unexpected. When I checked it the morning after I had made it, it looked like it had gotten LIGHTER. Now that its been...

Do as I say, not as I do

Oh, I know its my fault it got dark. Once it congealed, adding the lye slowly went out the window! It was every man for himself at that point! And my banana pretty much WAS my water. The soap has set up in the mold, so we shall see...

Do as I say, not as I do

The fragrance I used was caramel custard. I figured I may as well throw in a fagrance that discolors since it couldn't get much darker. Right now it mostly just smells...hot...

Do as I say, not as I do

So...banana soap made its way to the top of my list. I'm sure when others are making it, they are adding 1 T of banana, or some similar measley amount. Not me. I blended a whole banana together with a splash of water to make my lye water. I would probably not recommend this. As I was mixing my...

    Dry oil spray

Hi there! I primarily make CP soap, but thought I would get some cyclo and try making a dry oil spray since I like using them. I've checked swiftcrafty, but she gets a little more...intense sometimes...then I'd like to go. I don't want to buy a whole lot of special ingredients. I found...

    Freeze Avacado Puree?

I made avo soap with frozen avocados. Ihad bought some super ripe avo but wasn't ready to make the soap yet. So i froze the avocado and they turned out good, I thought! I do that with all the soaps I make with perishable ingredients. My freezer is full of quart freezer baggies of 'stuff'.

    Another question

For colors I don't think you even need to spend that much. I got sample sizes of oxides and ultramarines to start, and MONTHS later I'm still not out! I got mine from TKB Trading. The colors that seemed to be recommended and that I got were: Chromium Oxide Green Hydrated Chromium Oxide Green...

    Can the ammonia smell spread?

I've made soap with dairy products before, but yesterday I made a soap with greek yogurt and WOWZA did I get an ammonia smell! Burn your nose hairs off. I've read that the smell is supposed to lessen as it cures. So I was just smelling my curing soaps (thats normal, right?) and I thought a...

Tried to stop gel, doesn't seem to have worked...

I've found when putting the soap in the fridge or freezer I have to put the soap on a cooling rack otherwise it starts to gel on the bottom. Of course, this takes up a ton of space...

    coffee soap recipe idea

I use cold brewed coffee. super easy and makes great iced coffee too. I think I use these directions... http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2011/06/perfect-iced-coffee/ No special equipment needed, but I make mine in a french press which makes it easier to filter at the end. Sent from my...

Christmas might be coming early for my parents.

Yeah dad's quite the funny man. And supportive. He made me a wooden log mold :D and he saw a soap mold at an auction and got it for me. The one from the auction is interesting. It has metal dividers????

Christmas might be coming early for my parents.

Today I was talking to my mom on the phone. Mom: Your dad wants to talk to you. Me: Sure! Dad: I'm out of soap Me: OK... Dad: Your mom says you're probably saving it for Christmas. But I'm out now. Me: Sure, well... Dad: All we have is that icky white Dial soap. I don't like it. Me: Oh...
