Apparently I just can't help myself...

I didn't realize goat milk and coconut means heat in the mold. :/

Apparently I just can't help myself...

I said I wouldn't make another batch until my stick blender comes in the mail in over a week. So here I am making my second batch with a potato masher! This time I added essential oils, just a hint of floral and woody. Calling it Misty Forest. :) I just had to make it. The refined bacon...

    Saponified oils in lotion?

I can totally understand why. This is a very personal choice and decision. Part of why I am considering pouring them into an ice cube tray and keeping them frozen until using. I have had sensitive skin all my life and had various skin issues. I am very curious to know how a home made goat...

    Saponified oils in lotion?

I understand there is a huge risk in making goat milk lotion to sell. But I want to at the very least make it for me. 😊 I am considering making it and freezing it in an ice cube tray and just taking out one cube at a time.

Thank you! I will definitely check her out. :) Hot ****, it's soap!

    Saponified oils in lotion?

Ewww, then someone is selling soap as a lip balm and lotion. Thank you for the insight that the goat milk is but a tiny percentage based on the order of ingredients. I didn't catch that.

Gotcha. Looking forward to getting my new stick blender so I can use it properly. :) My very first batch that I made in 2009 ended up full of air bubbles, floating in water, and disappearing quickly. I must have over blended.

    Saponified oils in lotion?

So, my passion is finding ways to use my farm goat milk in skin care products. I have been informed that goat milk lotion is a very dicey prospect. I have been reading about it and collecting information. As I have been doing so, I have come across some obscure situations where someone has made...

Thank you, AliOop! Great information. I wish more recipes would talk about the danger of burning out the motor with too much continuous running. I see lots of recipes saying to do bursts, but not that that is part of the reason why. (Dammit, I always wanna know the why!!) For example, knowing...

Thank you, Hope Ann. I appreciate the advice and the nudge for where to learn more. I want to understand fully what I am up against and what is possible, as this is something I would really love to make work.

Okay, no glass. :) In the future I will stick blend the goat milk lye solution. This batch was small enough that I worried it would splash really badly, and now I don't have a working stick blender at all because it broke. :p I am so excited to make more soap, but I will hold off until my new...

Thank you linnie1gi. I will relegate the glass to only oils. I am seeing some white spots forming in the soap. Poop. :( I understand this is a danger with goat milk.

Thank you all so much for the information and feedback! I feel like a proud mother hen every time I look at this batch sitting in the mold. It definitely went through gel phase, which I wasn't sure it would do, since it never even got to trace before I poured it, and I am still so new and have a...

Thank you. 😊 I am looking forward to seeing how this batch comes out. Okay, so sunlight can cause rancidity? I understand there are likely reasons people don't put their soap in the sun, I just want to understand what those reasons are, since the Delany sister's apparently put their soap in...

    Goat farmer

Hello! I have been flirting with the idea of being a soap maker for a very long time. I am a passionate and dedicated dairy goat farmer, and I love the idea of using my milk to make soap, and maybe lotions and other things. I joined this forum maybe a decade ago and made exactly one batch of...

Lye crystals forming on soap as it cures?

I edited my post above to explain that all the amounts I put in were correct (same amount of fat, just different kinds, goat milk frozen instead of liquid). But after the oil separated in the first 24 hours, I imagine the lye was out of balance with the rest of the stuff. So maybe if I...

Lye crystals forming on soap as it cures?

Good to know about chicken fat and soft soap. I had read that beef tallow makes it very hard, so maybe they cancel each other out. :) The amount of animal fat was the same as what my recipe called for, it just called for only one kind and I put in three. The amounts I put in were the same as...

Lye crystals forming on soap as it cures?

OK, so I made my first batch. It was a goatmilk, honey, oatmeal recipe. I admit, I didn't follow the recipe perfectly. First, I didn't have enough of the kind of animal fat it called for, so I used what I had on hand until it was enough (beef, goat, chicken--is chicken OK?) Also, it called...
