Adding aloe vera to my soaps. Have tried adding it as 50% of the water content - but just before trace. However, i found that the lye didnt dissolve well in only the half amount of water. Instead, tried to lye to 50:50 water:aloe at start of process - would this eliminate any of the good...

Anyone able to advise me on the difference to my soap if i combine oils/lye at 120F vs 100F?

ah Safflower - yes i like the sound of that. I find Olive oil a bit greasy sometimes - as if its leaving a residue. Presummably i can get similar proporties as Olive with Sweet almond...? I was just looking for something cheaper than the almond.

does sunflower oil feel lighter? Which sunflower oil is high in oleic?

How does olive compare with sunflower oil for use in soaps and shampoos? I'm finding olive a bit heavy.....

Thanks everyone. Yes I agree with some-my hair seems to like my shampoo bars, as does my 9month old sons hair. I'm going to continue with researching the best way to make C P shampoos.

oh my word! I just did a quick search of one of my favourite 'natural' cosmetic suppliers and googled their ingredients list for their baby shampoo. Eeeek! Am quite shocked at the nture of the additional synthetic components they include. My search for a good CP shampoo recipe will now gain speed!

Lindy - i'm quite interested to know that you persevered with finding a good recipe for a natural shampoo. I am trying to do the same. Any hints/tips you could give away re: oils/butters etc? Would be very much appreciated. I am finding at the moment that mine can tend to leave a slight residue...

My lotion bars (beeswax, shea butter, almond oil) have an odd smell to them-similar to tobacco. Is it the beeswax?

I calibrated my test meter yesterday then tested one of my soaps. It came out as 9.6. Am going to order a bottle of buffer solution today. Shld I get ph7 or ph10 solution? And how often shld I calibrate do you think?

I just found that minimising my coconut oil reduced the cleansing factor, but then I had to up the amount of palm to keep it reasonable firm.
