    Goatsmilk soap

I love goats milk soap. I dont use shea or mango because they're a little harder to keep melted. To have the lightest color of soap I use olive caster and I think coconut. Didn't have my soap bible in front of me, sorry. I use frozen 100% goat milk ice cubes for liquid and I put it in ice water...

Adding water to HP mashed potatoes so it pours into my mold ?

I've seen videos where some soapers use a stick blender. I haven't found the need. Its easy to add the superfat to the batter. Get a really sturdy spoon or spatula and whip it good. Some fragrence oils will make your batter a little thicker at pour/glop. I agree that adding too much water can...

    Conditioning

I forgot to say that I use stearic in my soaps but I don't put it in till the first good stir. When I do the next good stir its melted in. I dump it on top and it completely melts. Essential Soap has good videos

    Conditioning

Do you add the superfat to the cooking part or after? When I HP I superfat 2% during the cook and 3-4% at the end of the cook. I can predict some of the qualities but not all sadly. I like my soap alot though and I have really dry skin.

I'm gonna do it...I'm gonna try HP!

I use sodium lactate in my hp. It does a good job of keeping it fluid in the cook process. It's weird because its supposed to be good for hardening. Just a note my friend and I make a lot of soaps hp and cp and we found that your soap temp really makes a difference in whether your scent holds...

    HP Lard Soap

I always plan my hot process to finish about 8ish pm so that I cut the loaves to dry while I'm drinking coffee in the morning before work. I get up at 5 am. I have a tank cutter and the soap cannot wait until 6:30 at nite!!! During soap "season" I have 5 crocks going at the same time!

    Distilled Water

I use a Brita. For those who don't know, it a pitcher with a charcoal filter in it. I keep 2 filled at all times. Ones for soap and ones for drinking. They know not to leave an empty pitcher in the fridge!!!

HP: to stir, or not to stir?

There's a good video on you tube. Look up essential soaps. Cant remember her name but she only does hot process. Personally I wouldn't discount water in HP and I only stir twice. Your fragrence won't fade if you follow the flash points. If your scent's flash temp is lower than your HP soap...

I'm gonna do it...I'm gonna try HP!

The with fragrencing HP is to watch for the flash points on your frangrence or essential oils. The lowest temp I've been able to achieve and still swirl color is 185 degrees. If your scent has a flash point lower than that you will lose your scent!

    Pencil line in HP?

:?:Is your superfat in the recipe when you put it in the crockpot or is it at some other time in the cooking process? If you superfat at a later time it will make the batter easier to manage and you could decorate the soap how you wish. Sodium Lactate will also help in keeping the soap more...

Castile for the New Year anyone?

Hot Process Castille re-do I re-did my not so great hot process castille. This time I still used 40% water to lye, but I remembered to only superfat 2%. I then cooked for 1 hour and stirred it well and cooked the second hour and then added 3% of olive oil and stirred well. I let it sit on...

    HP Lard Soap

I make hot process too. Just wanted to let you know that I have ruined batches YES BATCHES! because I didn't pay attention to flash points in the fragrence. I don't use essential oils but I've read they can be prone to vaporizing too. Newbies watch your fragrence oils flash point because after...

What do you consider a "filler" oil and why?

 Unless I've missed something when we superfat we don't exactly know what the lye left us with oil wise. I agree that some fats don't exactly add alot of nutrients to the bar. I see nothing wrong with using soy, canola or lard as long as the product is labled properly. All of the...

What happens if you add greek thick yogurt? Do you add water? Would the lye attack the fats and become lumpy?
