    So confused!!

When I make beer soap, I just let the beer go flat so it won't foam over when I add the lye. Then, I add the lye right in and let it heat by itself. I haven't ever felt the need to cook out the alcohol. My beer soap has had no ill effects. The sugars in the beer are what I tend to watch out for...

Glycerin as by-product of soap making

I want to thank you as well. I've always known (since starting to make soap anyway) that real soap retains it's glycerine, but I have no way of letting people know just about how much is actually in the soap. This is great information for both customer and producer. :D

    Lasercutz

Hey there Dave! Do you still make the custom stamps? If so, I will be sending you some artwork this week. Can you tell me roughly what shipping would cost to the US East Coast? Thanks.

    Not a candle but...

I just saw this and had to make one! It's an olive oil lamp that I made up rather quickly and crudely for emergencies. It could be made cuter. I do have essential oils in it for scent.

    Oatmeal questions

Again.. just my 2 cents... The reason I use some olive oil for the oat slurry, is two fold. 1. The oats don't soak up all the oils or water out of my batch making it dry and crumbly. 2. When I've seen some people use water for the slurry, it tends to cause DOS earlier than usual. I figure...

    New Confetti Soap

Thanks for the compliments! Looks like my wife wins this one.. she likes the name "Terrazzo". Guess I can't win them all :)

    Hand sculpting soap

I wouldn't call what i did hand "sculpting" exactly. But, I did make a batch of coal soap for Christmas the other day and "carved" the nicks and gouges in it that would be evident on actual coal lumps. Does that count at all? I think carving (as long as the soap is hard enough) would work very...

    French Green Clay isn't green..?

OK.. I have been going nuts for the last few days waiting to cut this soap. It's getting better, but still too soft to cut without squishing the log. I upped the castor a bit, and added clay to my original recipe. Soap Calc said that it should have been a fairly hard bar. Any thoughts? I have...

    Oatmeal questions

When I make my honey & oats bar, I usually add my ground oats to a little olive oil I reserved along with some honey and my clove eo. Now, I will say that I make this as HP and add the oats at the very end. I have yet to try it with cp, but when I do, I will probably do the same. I figure that I...

    New Confetti Soap

It's slightly off white. The black bits make it look a bit brighter :) I used pure olive oil, coconut oil and a little castor. Makes for a real nice bar of soap.

    New Confetti Soap

I made a one-off confetti soap yesterday with the scraps from my coal soap. It's scented with Lavender and Ylang Ylang... any thoughts on a name? I wish I had used a chocolate scent with some vanilla. It would have been like cookie dough or a white chocolate candy bar :)

Coal Soap! ( Pics Added )

It is a lot fun. I really like carving it. I'm starting to wonder how it would be to actually make a block of soap and carve it into something cool :) It would make a great conversation starter at shows...lol.

Thanks! I already have enough orders that I need to make more. I'm hoping the holiday season will pull us out of the hole after a slow craft show season.

While I do try to let everything go the full cure time, these will be fine being sold early. I sell with a disclaimer on them that they are safe to use, but should be allowed to sit for an additional 3-4 weeks to harden up. The packaging is just burlap, so there's plenty of airflow.

You'll have a blast! The charcoal dust can be a bit messy during clean up, but it's well worth it. I get mine from Soap Making Resources online. It seems to be ground very fine and doesn't clump at all. I just mix with a little olive oil to make a slurry before adding it at a light trace. I also...

Coal Soap! ( Pics Added )

I just carved a bit with a sharp kitchen knife. I just finished molding a second batch..this time with citrus scent :) I figure I'll give people a second choice in case they don't like the cinnamon.

    Aged soap?

That's a lot of patience! But, it would be cool to see what our soaps do as it ages.

Thanks! I think all my FB friends are going to clean me out before I can get them to the show I have this Saturday. Guess I'd better keep the oils warm :)
