    How to add citric acid?

Citric acid offers two major advantages. It is a solid soap preservative. It helps reduce soap scum and reduces spoilage and DOS (the dreaded orange stains) in finished soap products. On the other hand, the citric acid reacting with NaOH (with the addition of extra-lye) turns into a chelator...

So I had a weird market weekend.

I'm surprised he didn't suspect you as part of the conspiracy. His twisted mind would have come up with something like: "Aha, what are you selling here? Special brainwashing soaps?"

Optimal temperature for mixing oils with lye in the CP process?

@AliOop I wrote "penthanol" and I edited. Look at "NcDon said:" in your message. LOL

Optimal temperature for mixing oils with lye in the CP process?

Oops, panthenol (edited) not "penthanol" :)

Optimal temperature for mixing oils with lye in the CP process?

Good to know. No fancy swirls, no FO. IMO the main function of soap is washing. The emollient and moisturizing role applied to the skin (condition 56, creamy 19 and panthenol) somehow compensates for the high PH of the soap (10.2-10.5), which dries the skin and exposes it to microorganisms...

Optimal temperature for mixing oils with lye in the CP process?

I use 60% liquid oils (most part olive oil) and 40% solid oils and butters in my recipe. 1% ppo citric acid (dissolved in water then I add NaOH with extra lye), Water:Lye Ratio = 2.105:1, 1% ppo Panthenol, 1% ppo Sodium lactate, EO's blend 3.2% ppo. I noticed that the saponification is...

Optimal temperature for mixing oils with lye in the CP process?

What is the optimal temperature for mixing oils with lye in the CP process? I mixed the oils and lye both at temperatures between 50-55 degrees Celsius (122-131 F) in several batches and the soaps came out well. Thank you in advance.

So, I thought my math was right- too much lye!

In this century where everyone is in a hurry, there is a rule: if it doesn't work, read the instructions. :)

    Fragrance Oil Vs Essential Oil

The main purpose for which I make my own soap for personal use is to avoid toxic chemicals. Otherwise I would buy soap from the store. I prefer EO's to avoid harmful chemicals in my soap. Essential Oils are made from 100% organic plant matter. To be sure, look for the "USDA Organic" stamp on...

I wonder if I may produce CP homemade soap with tap water

In the recipe formulator from Lye Calculator & Recipe Creator for Soap Making | LyeCalc there are some recommended additives for advanced soapmakers. For citric acid powder (anhydrous) %1 ppo in my recipe (8.10 g) -> extra Lye for C.A. %1 NaOH (purity 99%): 5.11 gram(s). For different total oil...

I wonder if I may produce CP homemade soap with tap water

Thank you @DeeAnna for your in-depth explanations. I will test in the future a small batch of CP for solid soap using a chelator (anhydrous citric acid 3% ppo) premixed with water into which I will pour NaOH. Of course, with extra lye added accordingly for a water:lye ratio of 2.068:1 and total...

I wonder if I may produce CP homemade soap with tap water

Has anyone experienced this? In my home, tap water filtered through the BRITTA filter cup has TDS 28 ppm and PH 6.5. The PH of water decreases if it is kept in an open container because it interacts with the oxygen in the air, which lowers its PH. Distilled water with TDS 3 ppm only has PH 7...

added much less water in lye solution

It's not a bad soap at all. A lye concentration of 37.5% is not unusual. It is usually used between 30-40%. If you do not add dry flowers or other materials that can burn and smell bad or look bad, there is no danger. You probably accidentally used a better recipe now. Better and faster...

Superfat adjusting in CP because the EO blend add more fat to the batch

Thanks. Thanks. I cut the soap with a guilotine. I didn't wait 24 hours so it wouldn't harden too much. I cut after 18 hours and it worked like clockwork.

Superfat adjusting in CP because the EO blend add more fat to the batch

18 hours after the trace point of no return. Ingredients: a blend of three EOs, 3.3% ppo (Base note: Santal Amyris. Heart note: Mandarin. Top note: Lavender). Citric Acid 1%, Panthenol 1%, Sodium Lactate 1%. I applied many of the practical tips from this forum and I thank the experienced...

How to calculate the weight of melt and pour soap

I answered here inadvertently, reading only the question and not the title. This is why I wrote about the CP and not the M&P. You are right, a scale is absolutely necessary. In general, nothing is impossible in this world. How to weigh things without a scale? The Fulcrum method using objects...

How to calculate the weight of melt and pour soap

For CP I fill the silicone mold with water up to the desired level and weigh the amount of water added in ml. Since solid soap is denser than water, I apply a multiplication factor of 1.1 (1.1g of ready-to-pour mixed soap for 1ml of water measured from the mold) to the weight of measured water...

Superfat adjusting in CP because the EO blend add more fat to the batch

This is my new fresh batch of soap. A blend of five oils along with a blend of three EOs. Everything looks good. These are the numbers. Now, 36-48 hours waiting time... The soap is still warm. The final gel phase. I gently fingered the bar a bit to see what happens. Nothing. No skin irritation...

How to calculate the weight of melt and pour soap

In soapcalc, LyeCalc, or other online soap making calculators where you design whatever soap recipe you want, there is a Soap Weight (Pre-Cook) value of the whole batch before CP proccessing. If you subtract about half of the total weight of water, you will get the approximate net weight of the...

How much ice to use while keeping the soap hot?

I pour NaOH into distilled water refrigerated at 4 degrees Celsius (39.2 F). This makes the reaction of the mixture smooth and elegant, without visible toxic fumes, boiling, noise and foam like champagne. I use a silicone spatula, glasses and gloves to dissolve NaOH as if I were mixing sugar or...
