SMF June 2019 Challenge - Rimmed Soap

Well, it's been way too long since I've both soaped and entered a challenge! 1. steffamarie - why the heck not?! I'm only slightly terrified ;P 2. TheDragonGirl- This looks exciting and I already know what I want to do 3. MarnieSoapien - It's not what's on the outside that counts. Wait a...

    Salt Bar Recipe

I have 2 tried and tested EO blends that I use exclusively for salt bars because, well, I used these blends early on with my first salt bars and I'm somewhat a creature of habit so now I associate these blends only with salt bars. But the scent sticks like glue. In fact, I was...

    Bonjour from India!

Whoa, that is CRAZY, and I can't get over what a small world it really is!!! Holy smokes! We are forever filled with gratitude to Grace and what she did to rescue our little girl, and the tireless work she continues to do daily. She is truly an angel. It sounds like your cats are now very...

    Bonjour from India!

Well, that's a little bit of a small world! I don't think I could take the heat... or monsoons... but I would love to eat all the food! There is one of the most remarkable women on the planet living in Rishikesh named Grace who runs Rishikesh Animal Care. They medically treat and spay/neuter...

Need advice on a soap design

Sculpted layers might work, too. For this soap I poured a layer of dark blue, let it set up to thick trace then used a piece of coroplast I'd cut out to scoop out the middle of the soap leaving a "V." Then I poured a lighter blue layer, used another piece of coroplast that fit that layer and...

    Furry happy.

Oh, my, such agile little buggers! So adorable, and I just wanted to scoop one up to feel their amazing softness. Thanks for sharing - I was definitely smiling!

    Bonjour from India!

Welcome! I started with a couple DIY cosmetic-type items before giving soaping a whirl, and let me just say that soaping took the addiction to a whole new level. Be prepared! But this forum is a tremendous resource for... well, so many things. And there is an international audience...

    Laundry soap

Just to close the loop on this, I have a small scoop that I estimate holds about 2 tablespoons, and I just measured the it with the laundry soap and it's about 25g/load. It's enough to generate some suds when I put it in (dissolves better if I start the load on warm water) and it also makes the...

    Laundry soap

I use a 1:1 ratio of soap:washing soda (no borax). The soap I make also has a -2% superfat, and I use vinegar in its production to get 3% sodium acetate (I feel this makes it a little more crumbly and easier to grind; more info about using it here). The citric acid comes into play for me...

    Recipe Question...

I personally don't see any difference in lather with/without it, and feel my bars are slightly firmer without it. Dropping it also slowed the trace of my recipes, which isn't always a good thing because sometimes I get too impatient waiting it to thicken up enough so the swirls don't get all...

    scent and soaps

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you because I've never used shrink wrap. But I have seen posts on this forum regarding the use of shrink wrap, so it's possible you may be able to dig around for further information or maybe someone with experience will come along. Either way, hope...

    “Mud” soap continued...

I really like it - it's dark and mysterious (I thought your other mud soap was gorgeous, too). There is a technique I haven't tried yet but am intrigued by, called Thin Line Design. Amy Warden's Soap Challenge Club recently featured it for their monthly competition, and you can see some of...

    Recipe Question...

Your first recipe is similar to one I often use, which is: 30% olive oil 25% beef tallow 20-25% coconut oil 10-15% HO sunflower oil or avocado oil 10% shea butter Add: 5% sugar (based on oil weight; an IrishLass suggestion) Lye concentration: usually 38-40% Superfat: 2-3% Colorants: oxides...

    Benzoin resinoid in CP?

I've only used it twice, but the first batch was in a cocoa-butter-forward batch where I wanted to bring out the delicious smell of cocoa butter with the sweetness of the benzoin (recipe: 35% olive oil, 25% cocoa butter, 25% coconut oil, 15% sunflower oil HO; soaped using 38% lye...

    scent to go with color

I get most of my EOs from NDA, as they have great prices and selection and I've generally been pleased with the quality. One thing to note is they have a $100 minimum order or they charge a service fee. I've never had troubles reaching the $100, as my biggest challenge is usually trying not to...

    Lip balm

This is also the first one I ever made years ago (I think it was also my "gateway" into making B&B products). Since then I've tweaked it a bunch because I didn't like the shea butter or the consistency when using the ratios WellnessMama used, and now this is the only one I make: 35% Beeswax...

    scent to go with color

It doesn't smell piney to me, rather it smells like the crisp air in a fir forest after a rain. I usually make it once a year in the fall and this year I named it "Steep in the Woods." The scent really sticks, too (I generally use this blend at a rate of 4% oil weight).
