my first craftfair - lots of soapers...lots learned

Just curious how big your soaps are. I'm also trying to figure out how much to sell soaps for at our small business locally. I've read on Soap Forum that some soapers sell a 4.5oz. bar of soap sells for between $5-7.50. My bars are 5-6oz. I was going to try to sell them for $5/bar (including...

What about frozen grape juice cubes with lye instead of water..

If I used it in a soap that I wanted a brownish color, do you think there would be any grape scent still left? Did your wine scent stay in your soap when it was finished?

    Bacon fat in soap?

Thanks. Very interesting. I started keeping my strained bacon grease in a measuring cup in the fridge. I made my husband very happy when I said he can eat more bacon, so long as he strains and keeps the grease for me. I do need to research a different lye calculator, as the Bramble Berry one...

What about frozen grape juice cubes with lye instead of water..

I have some homemade grape juice (without preservatives) that probably should be thrown out. I thought that perhaps I could use it instead of water with lye (as frozen cubes because of the sugar content) and perhaps get some purple coloring from it. If it turns brown, that wouldn't be good...

    Lard soap possible problem...

Has anyone actually used bacon grease in cp soap?

    coloring question.

I ordered colors on Bramble Berry's website. They list on there if a color fades or turns a different color during CP soap making. I've only experimented with a couple so far. I didn't know that you could mix some powders with water. I thought they all were supposed to be mixed with oil or...

    Question about coloring.

Bramble berry tells you if a color fades or turns a different color in CP soap, right on their website.

    Wanna talk Canola?

Ok, almost the whole container of olive oil IS thick. It looks like a nice container of thick lemonade. Boy would I be disappointed if I took a sip of that thick oil. I guess it's truly olive oil then.

    Definition of SAP value

New12 soap, what is SF? I've been using the Bramble Berry lye calculator because the other ones I've seen are so complex.

    Wanna talk Canola?

What happens if you put the whole container of olive oil in the fridge. I forgot that you said "a jar" and put the whole thing in there to see if it thickened. It basically looks like lemon lime gatorade with lots of specks and some thickness.:???:

    Definition of SAP value

Everyone uses a lot of abbreviations here on Soap Forum. I'm learning them, but someone asked me my SAP value for a recipe I used. I would've asked the person asking, but didn't log back on for some time afterward and forgot to ask her. Just thought I'd ask someone today.

    Lard soap too soft

5% super fat. I couldn't line the plastic molds because they were yogurt containers and disposable cupcake holders. I'd used the yogurt containers before and had firm soaps the next day. I bet it was due to no gel because it cooled too fast without insulation.

    Why Do a Water Discount?

BTW, I made HP Castile soap in my crock pot so I could add distilled water to it to make my own cleaning products. HP soap is already cooked, so you can use it in a day or two.

    Lard soap too soft

I forgot to cover them with towels after pouring. They probably didn't gel. I added 1.4 oz. fragrance oil. The Brambleberry fragrance calc said to use .7-1oz. Fragrance oil per pound of finished soap. I did use their lye calc.

    Lard soap too soft

No sweating or seperation. Other than slightly out of shape soaps, they look great. Lard is just easy to find at Walmart. I was hoping to switch to that from the vegetable ghee that I can't figure quite how to use the lye calculator with. It made a firmer soap though...the veg. ghee.

    Lard soap too soft

I don't have the recipe in front of me. It was only a 2lb. batch. The soap looks creamy, but soft. I saw someone else had soft soap which hardened. That person's husband was a butcher and made his own lard. My problem was that I used molds which were difficult to squeeze the soap out of...
