I have this set. The large mixing bowl worked for the one 5lb batch I did, though it was very full. 5 or 5.5qt would probably be better.
All in all, though, I'm quite pleased with them. The only thing I'd like to change is a more pronounced spout.
That's an oops? Looks pretty nice!
I made a tiny little batch of shaving soap.
Edit: I learned some interesting things last night after having to turn the crock pots off after my oils were melted because I got interrupted.
If you let a mix of oils including stearic acid cool...
On a related note, I'd be curious to know if anyone here has tried using either 1) a hand plane, or in sort of the opposite direction, 2) a kitchen mandoline/v-slicer for this?
My dividers came in the mail yesterday (my homemade ones have historically not been a great thing) so I am going to try to make my attempt tonight. It should just be cuttable by the time the thread closes.
Swirls may be better for catching the eye and getting a second look/click than actually securing a sale. The feathered mantra swirl seems to attract attention.
I've never had any complaints about a color or swirl, but people do seem to like the marble look of ITP swirls, the rings of (faux-)...
I think it would be an FO, but "synthetic essential oils" are supposed to contain the full profile of chemicals like the EO. I haven't used any, yet, so I couldn't say.
I use a mortar and pestle to grind up menthol crystals before adding them to various products. Makes the process of getting them dissolved and distributed much easier.
It's funny, I've done more damage with EOs and FOs than lye at my house. They'll to terrible things to plastic and plastic-based things like contact paper.
*nod* Most of them do, it's only the most basic/old fashioned of them that are still 100% lye.
I think everyone is a little nervous the first time. It's not every day you work with caustic materials that can burn you that quickly. But if you double check your measurements, and make sure to...
It's probably not stick blending per se so much as it is getting all the colors mixed together.
I noticed you said:
Makes me wonder if colors are being left stuck on the base of the vessel when you stir with a spatula. The stick blender sucks things up from below very strongly.
Have you...
I have some 24oz or so spouted pitchers that work great for smaller amounts of colored soap for designs. I just want to be able to do an in the pot swirl into cavity molds without making a mess!
How well does the spout work on these? They seem pretty similar to the ones I have.
