    Making shampoo today

Juliet, do you use Soapcalc and set superfat at 0 thus giving a 10% superfat? Do you use glycerin method? I do and I wonder if this has something to do with it. When I first started liquid soap, and used the water method, I would not get a clear dilution if there was any superfat. Now using...

    Help!

Hello, It is a little hard to read your recipe, but did you put in the coconut oil? It is the only oil that doesn't have a checkmark beside it. Also, is your superfat a -13%? Why so much? For SoapCalc recipes I use a -2% superfat. Is it still zappy today? What does the paste look like...

    Essential Depot?

VanessaP, I like the EO's from Dianna's Sugar Plum Sundries. Have you ordered from her? She's near Chattanooga and I've always had great customer service. Carolyn

Why is my liquid soap so drying?

A couple of ideas with regards as to why your soap is drying. 1. "I used the soapcalc.net and added an extra 8% lye so my soap would be crystal clear and not cloudy." When I use soapcalc to make a liquid soap recipe I put -2% in the superfat/Discount category. I find that is enough...

Liquid soap: Is a preservative necessary?

Hello lsg, I want to be sure I understand the .3% of preservative. So for 49 oz. of diluted soap you add .3% of that amount in liquid Germall Plus? Is this correct: .3% of 49 oz.= 0.147 oz. of Germall Plus added as a preservative. Or am I getting this all wrong? Carolyn

Essential oils that do not cloud liquid soap

Hello green soap! I find that Lemon 5x and Orange 15x both start cloudy, but then clear upon sequester. Lavender and Peppermint do fine as well. Are you using different suppliers perhaps? Does your recipe include butters? On a completely different note, I find that infused oils really darken...

Has Sam's Club changed their olive oil?

When I last purchased Member's Mark 100% Pure Olive Oil from Sam's Club it was about six months ago and the ingredient label reads: High Quality Olive oil from Spain, Italy, Greece and Tunisia. Today when I returned to buy more olive oil there was no more Member's Mark brand. Instead I found...

    Dishwashing liquid

Thank you Irish Lass! I have stearic acid so I might try that - especially if you get a great hand feel. I remember from the thread that it contributes a pearlish look but didnt know the other qualities it contributes. I don't mind cloudy LS and may try your shea butter recipe this fall...

    Dishwashing liquid

I make liquid soap for hand washing (not dishes) and have used both the traditional water method and the glycerin method (per the directions on The Dish Forum). I find the glycerin method is less drying for a hand soap. So when I finally make my own dish washing liquid I will use the water...

    Russian Cambrian Blue Clay

When I get to France I will call the company and see if the clays are soap safe (ie. with no added colorants). I will also want to verify where it was mined and what processes are used to determine purity. What other questions should I ask them? I will know more about purchasing once I talk...

Liquid Soap -- Finally -- Yet I Have Some ???

In this link Steve explains when to use borax, boric acid, and citric acid in liquid soap. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16255&p=163607&hilit=+liquid+soap+neutralizing#p163607 You might want to read "Making Natural Liquid Soap" by Catherine Failor, if you haven't already. Are you familiar with David...

Liquid Soap -- Finally -- Yet I Have Some ???

Congratulations on your liquid soap!! Let me see if I can be of help. Regarding question 1: This happens with my liquid soap as well - both when I neutralize with borax and when I don't. I notice this most when cleaning out my soap pumps - the washing/rinsing water is a faint milky white...

    herbs and flowers in soap

How nice to have such lovely herbs and flowers in your garden! You could dry the lavender buds, hibiscus and honeysuckle flowers and sprinkle them on top of your soap for decoration. You could dry the basil and thyme and use them in an oil infusion - might make a nice "Garden Herb Soap". I...

    First time here, have ?????

Welcome to the Forum and congratulations on your first batch!! I do not wear gloves when unmolding and cutting my soap. For most of my regular CP soaps the minimum cure time is 4 weeks and 6 weeks is even better. Some special soaps (like Castille or Salt Bars) have an even longer cure time -...
