My First Soap - Please Critique

Well, my folks were over Friday night and noticed the box of soaps curing in my spare bathroom. Decided to give them two bars with instructions on harsh feedback if needed. To my surprise when I saw them this afternoon they've requested two more bars because they've liked them so much. Mom's...

    $100--- Spend it!

Thanks, Tienne. I'll make a dollar store trip and pick up some containers... Seven, it's only about 18 degrees F here this morning. We keep our house around 68 so I'm assuming that's still not warm enough.

    $100--- Spend it!

Alright, all supplies are in... I feel a batch coming by the end of the weekend. Scratching my head on how to get the palm oil out of the bottle though. I'm assuming I just melt it down and pour the amount needed and let the rest solidify again for future use?!?

    fortifying a cardboard mold

I'm in the same shoes as you and plan on using a cardboard box mold the next time I soap. One thing I came across to reinforce was to stack books on the side of the mold. I know in the long run this isn't ideal but for a newbie I plan on trying this when I use my newly made box molds!!! As a...

My First Soap - Please Critique

Week 4 update. I've used this soap all week (same bar as previous) with now issues. The lather appears to be thicker with more small bubbles than before and my hands are no longer getting dry soon after use. My wife actually used the bar and liked it this morning. She has dryness complaints last...

    $100--- Spend it!

In light of the ripping old furniture apart and making molds out of them idea (Will be making that my new project very soon) here is what I purchased this morning. This should make for quite a few fun batches of soap with options... From Wholesalesupplies.com (Got to love that free...

    $100--- Spend it!

I did an exercise with my class the other day (High School Teacher) where I in theory gave them $20,000 unrestricted to do whatever they wanted to and then we went from there analyzing their choices. I'm a new soaper and do way more research than soaping. I'm only one batch in and have spent...

My First Soap - Please Critique

I've thought about going the lard route to decrease my CO and add hardness to the bar but I'm trying to stay all veggie just in case down the road anybody I gift soap too has an aversion to animal products. Sustainable Palm isn't available in stores here so I'll have to get that online if I...

My First Soap - Please Critique

Just a quick observation after three days of use. Still under the 3 week mark, this particular recipe combined with the winter weather (on the east coast and we're getting hammered with cold winter weather) may not be the greatest for my skin. Leaves me feeling a little dry compared to my off...

What to do with ugly but usable soap?

I'm not exactly a seasoned veteran at soap making by any means but for what it's worth I think they look awesome in the pics! If you're bent on not gifting them maybe head on down to your local hippie hangout and say happy holidays with a batch of soap... If you sell your products maybe attach a...

My First Soap - Please Critique

Alright guys. Was out of town this weekend so the lather test was a little delayed. I did a quick YouTube video you can see it lather up here http://youtu.be/L21144IWHtw I used one from the heart molds that was all the left over at the end instead of the cut bars. IMO it lathered up good and I...

My First Soap - Please Critique

Checking back in a week later. Soaps are whitening up more around the edges. No longer mushy and beginning to harden. I was able to get the hearts out of the plastic molds after leaving them in the freezer this week. I slid a thin knife around the edges and they popped right out. I'm still...

My First Soap - Please Critique

Well... I put the heart molds in the freezer and no luck... I may try heating the outside next as soon as I get them out of the freezer... Have definitely learned a valuable lesson on this one. Unlike melt and pour, CP doesn't just pop right out! On the reaction, I'm assuming the soap is still...
