How To Compensate for Dried Orange Peels Affecting Lye?

Okay cleaning results are in! The orange peel soap cleans fantastically. We had a pan with hard baked-on cheese - it cleaned it really well, left no greasy feel. That was what I was concerned about because it feels so creamy I thought it might have too much fat to clean without leaving...

How To Compensate for Dried Orange Peels Affecting Lye?

I started making dish soap & shampoo because I have multiple horrid chemical allergies & most soaps (especially liquid) and lotions cause terrible rashes. TBH I don't remember where I got the original recipe for the dish soap since every one I've seen since has multiple oils. This is just a...

How To Compensate for Dried Orange Peels Affecting Lye?

oh, one more thing that probably doesn't matter at all I make shampoo bars that are 10% superfat & they are NOT at all creamy. Great lather, but not the 'creamy' feel of this soap. So I think something special happened, I don't think it's just that there is some reduction in the lye ... I...

How To Compensate for Dried Orange Peels Affecting Lye?

Well, we'll just have to disagree, because my soap doesn't gel, I slice it just about as soon as I pour it. I do really like whatever happened with the addition of the orange peel - it really is soooo creamy Oh & forgot to say thanks for the info on the lye dissipating, good to know

How To Compensate for Dried Orange Peels Affecting Lye?

Thank you for your long reply Don't know if you've ever made 100% coconut oil soap, but it sets up pretty much as soon as you pour it. Bars can be cut within a couple hours. This did not set up 'normal' hard until the next day, although I unmolded some after a couple hours to see what they...

How To Compensate for Dried Orange Peels Affecting Lye?

Hi All, I looked through a lot of posts, didn't see this info, but maybe I just missed it. I'm still fairly new to soaping, so I guess I didn't think I needed to do any research, but when I did, I didn't find any answers anyway. I make 0% SF 100% Coconut Oil dish bars & love them! I thought...

Rice water soap, is it worth it?

Arsenic is a naturally occuring element in the soil

Rice water soap, is it worth it?

I don't know if you use brown rice, or if this is of interest to anyone at all, but I was recently made aware of the high arsenic level in brown rice which is the only rice I use. The way to remove the arsenic is to parboil the rice, meaning boil it for 5 minutes, then pour off & replace the...

Master's Brush Soap & Preservative ... looking for copycat recipe??

Don't know why I didn't see this before - thank you! Interesting idea w/ethelyne glycol ... Gosh, I haven't painted in years! Well, we sold our big house/studio & live in a tiny travel trailer for the past 5 years, but I've still done a few commissions. I offer free paintings to Search &...

Colloidal Silver or Copper in Soap

Well, that's disappointing. I don't make lotions. (yet?) If I do any successful experiments, I'll let you know. huh, I put everyones' comments as 'quotes' but they didn't show up - anyway - thanks

Colloidal Silver or Copper in Soap

Hi All I'm interested in possibly incorporating silver or copper into a batch of soap. I thought if I made colloidal version I could use it in the water, but I guess that's not a good idea since I would assume both would be reactive to lye. I searched & there was an old thread asking about...

    Mobjack Bay 2024

Just learn how to do it yourself. I'm the one with all the woodworking tools in my family - my husband doesn't do any of that stuff. I do woodworking, stained glass & fusing, sewing, fimo clay, etc - YOU CAN DO IT! My husband likes to cook, so I'm happy :) (but then if I was alone, I'd just eat...

Soap recipe for older thin skin

Good point. But since they teased you about it when you gave it to them you can just tell them that you like them and you want to give them something LOL that's what I do. The people I give my soap to don't ever seem to use it anyway.

Soap recipe for older thin skin

Why wouldn't you want to give them soap? Are you punishing them for not showering? LOL Showering only once a week, in cooler water is MUCH better for your skin/health. Particularly if you have any eczema, psoriasis or dry skin.

March 2024 SMF Challenge - Stone Soaps!

Stone Soap (not soup) What a clever idea. If you want to make your own molds for stones, (or anything else) you can do it quite cheaply with a tube of silicone caulking from the hardware store & a box of cornstarch. Made by Barb was the first place I saw the technique -...

Soap recipe for older thin skin

So far organic coconut oil has been working very well for us. I hope it continues because it's a very economical source. Tallow is quite expensive and lard has ingredients I do not want in my soap like preservatives etc

Peanut oil and Baking Soda. Will it work?

My dad used to make lye this way. https://www.motherearthnews.com/homesteading-and-livestock/how-to-make-soap-from-ashes-zmaz72jfzfre/ FWIW I used to live next door to the Mother Earth News compound near Hendersonville North Carolina. Basically it was a bunch of yuppies who wanted to go back to...

Quick question, well and septic tank

If you are wiping grease off onto microfiber towels & then washing them to remove the grease, it's going the same place it would go from your kitchen sink. Into your septic system. I have a very small septic tank & am interested in this discussion, because I hadn't considered it. I use...

Soap recipe for older thin skin

The swirly soap is not the detoxing one. Interesting how everyone reacts differently. I wash my hands with 100% Coconut / 0% SF dish soap (which is AWESOME) and have no problem. But the one with the 4 oils is wonderful & softening. Oddly I bought the shea butter to use for lotion, and it made my...

Soap recipe for older thin skin

Not sure what you mean by purist? I think of myself as a purist because I use mostly organic, no artificial colors, no additives - but I think swirling is super cool LOL.... I just made shampoo with charcoal - swirled black/white :) beautious as my mom would say! I don't sell it I just make...
