tried to make bath fizzys by soap queen

It is also very humid here (I'm also on the Gulf Coast). My first batch was a bomb! They were horrible to say the least and they got bumps all over them. They actually ended up being completely mushy. I did try one recipe that worked out very well for me. I didn't use any witch hazel at...

    Forbidden Fruit FO from NG

It definitely made a batch of my CP seize.... I had to stuff it into the mold! So I won't be using it anymore with CP... would probably be ok with HP though. It is an awesome smelling FO though and is sticking pretty well even after 3 to 4 weeks of curing.

What Fragrence Oils do you ladies recommend for Bath Bombs?

Probably a crazy question, but.... if a fragrance oil has vanilla in it, it will turn soaps brown. Does it do the same thing to bath bombs?

    Vanillin in FO.... A Question

Just wondering, at what % of vanillin do you feel that FO start to discolor your CP soaps? I have a FO that has a content of 0.6% vanillin. I will probably use the vanilla color stabilizer with it. If you use titanium dioxide to whiten your soap with, do you prefer the powder or do you use...

This May Be a Stupid Question, but....

I've been using the soap calculator at WSP and they list the new Crisco w/palm oil as one of the oils for the calculator. So, I'm trusting that they know the percentage of soybean and palm oils for the saponification. Thanks for the info about DOS and canola and soybean oil! I really...

This May Be a Stupid Question, but....

since Crisco changed the ingredients for their "all vegetable shortening", why don't soapers use it more to make soaps? The ingredients are: Since the Crisco has the palm oil in it, it seems like it would be a cheaper alternative to purchasing Palm Oil online and having it shipped. Is...

    how to calculate

I've seen where soapers have commented about adding sugar but I didn't really know the reason. When should it be added and how much per pound of oils?

Is It Just Me? (Silicon Molds)

Well, here's an update to my experiment - IT'S OVER LOL! I put the silicon hearts mold into the freezer for about 30 minutes, took it out and the soap I poured last night came out so easy. So I unmolded all 4 of them. I put them on a paper towel because I knew they were going to sweat a...

    Black Soap

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this post about making black soap! (LOVE LOVE the search function on this message board!!!) But since I ordered black oxide (didn't know about that charcoal), if I use black oxide, will this give me black bubbles? I don't really want black suds and bubbles.

Is It Just Me? (Silicon Molds)

I re-formulated a bit because my olive oil % was a bit high and when I ran the numbers through the lye calculator at WSP, it showed that I would have a rather "soft" soap... I made 2 more batches of soap last night and used the Wilton molds for the "extra" so I plan on trying to unmold the...

Is It Just Me? (Silicon Molds)

They are new molds.... Wilton brand. I'm thinking that my soap is a little too soft and maybe I need to re-formulate it a bit. It looks like the "iodine absorption" is too high which would make for a softer soap.

Is It Just Me? (Silicon Molds)

Just wondering if it's just me or not but it seems that I have to leave the CP soap in the silicon molds much longer than in the wooden loaf molds that I line with freezer paper.... If I don't, I have trouble getting them out because they are still a bit mushy on the bottom. I have...

Bad Recipe? I Need Advice On This One :-)

You are absolutely right.... I figured out what I did wrong! I re-made the batch and when I was measuring I realized that I measured 8 oz too few of Olive Oil! So, this morning the bad batch went into the crock pot with 10 oz of olive oil added to it and some water LOL Now it's drying nicely...

    Sugar Cubes

I've seen some sugar cubes on Etsy in the last couple of days and the cubes are so perfectly square.... how did they do that? They almost look as square and hard as real sugar cubes.

    Vanilla Stabilizer or Titanium Dioxide?

I am so glad that you told me this! I just cooked up a batch of soap this morning, used the vanilla stabilizer and IT'S YELLOW and I mean bright yellow LOL And it made the purple an ucky color and turned the pink to orange. The loaf is supposed to be purple with cream and pink swirls...

Bad Recipe? I Need Advice On This One :-)

So the recipe looks ok to you? Now I'm wondering if I overmeasured the lye.... If I did, would this be the kind of results that I would get? Thanks for your help!!

Bad Recipe? I Need Advice On This One :-)

OK, I made a batch of soap early this morning. Everything went together very well, the batch traced (not too fast), everything went well when I added the colorant and the fragrance oil.... I was able to do a double pour (2 colors at one time) and also a swirl color.... no problems with any of...

    Vanilla Stabilizer or Titanium Dioxide?

American Valkyrie - I also saw on Brambleberry that the stabilizer would not work in CP. Then I saw the WSP and theirs says that it is good for CP too :-) I'm going to give it a try. I'll let you know how it works out.
