I just ordered my first batch of soaping supplies. MAN!! that was a lot of money.

In Norway, where I used to live, there were no supply stores for soaping so I had to make do with the grocery store and I could divide the costs a little bit more.

I still haven't found a local supply for lye, will head to Lowe's and HD some time this week and give that a shot. Hopefully they will have some, because shipping for lye is insane.

I looked at Snowdrift Farm, WSP, Essential7, Sopies Supplies, Brambleberry and Soaper's Choice.

For my limited funds and small order, Brambleberry was the cheapest for pretty much all I checked. I also ordered a set of liquid colorants (FD&C) from Ginger's Garden (Fantastic service already, personal email almost as soon as I placed the order. Will look at her scents some other time) and an Escali Primo scale and stick blender from Amazon.

My hubby and oldest son are going on a trip in a week and I will be soaping in peace! :D

I don't think you'll have much luck with Lowes or Home Depot. Lye is a main ingredient in making meth, and I believe the Government asked them to stop selling it. You'll be better off calling small hardware stores or farm supply stores. I've also heard Ace Hardware is a good place to call.

Ginger's Garden is Soapbuddy, she posts on here from time to time.
Lovely lady, and she's been making soap for around 30 years I think.
She really knows her stuff, and she would only sell high quality supplies.

The farm supply stores don't have it either, they said not for 20 years... Shucks, I guess I have to order it online after all.

Anyway, I got almost all my supplies, just waiting for my jars and lip balm tubes from SKS. I will start on Monday, hubby is leaving tomorrow and I will have the kitchen to myself. 8)

Gosh, I live in California, right in the middle of Meth Country, and I found it at Ace Hardware. I just walked in and asked for drain cleaner. The clerk told me which aisle. I asked if it was pure sodium hydroxide. (I figured "lye" is a naughty word.) He said "yep" and looked at me funny. I told him I was making soap. He took me right to it.
