I've been dying to soap this scent and I "thought" totally screwed this one up, but it turns out I laid in bed almost in tears last night for nothing. The soap will be FINE :D

When I made this I intended to make the yellow the main part of the soap and scent only that then have a white unscented layer because I was "SURE" my FO contained vanilla and I didn't want brown soap. Well I make it, have a brain fart and do it completely backwards...scented the white, not the yellow :(

I went to bed thinking it would probably be pretty for a couple days but then turn brown ( like a darn banana ) I was wrong :D I went to WSP where I bought the FO this morning just to see how bad it was gonna get and check the vanilla percentage in it and wow, there is 0 vanilla in the FO !! Weeeee no discoloring coming and it came out exactly how I'd hoped :D

I dunno why I thought there was vanilla in it, I'm just happy I was wrong :D

So here it is, my first successful layer and the most delicious banana/coconut FO :)

I sprinkled a very tiny amount of cocoa powder on top of the first layer after I poured it :)

You just made my day!! I've been doing the most rediculous things to achieve that look, like pulling out 4 tbsp of soap batter and coloring it, then trying to smear it on with a knife.

Anyways, enough hijacking your thread. These soaps are an inspiration to me and I cannot wait to try the little black line!

When you try it, be sure to show us pics of the end result :D

I love it, nice soap. No need for tears, you can always try try again! Do you use Titanium Dioxide? It help turns brown soap white at times..

LOL, you see I said .....At Times

My recipe is pretty white so I don't usually use TD. I tried it a couple times in GM soap and it didn't really do much so I didn't bother again.

Those are beautiful!! Do you find that the cocoa powder makes brown lather when you use it, or no? I've been toying with the idea of trying something like this too. A soaper on Etsy does it (Mooka?) and they're always so pretty. Great job! It sounds like they smell amazing.

It does discolor the wash cloth if you use a LOT, but it shouldn't with the amount I used here.

I like the cocoa powder idea...hmmm....I wonder what else can be used? Mica?

yeah mica works, but I didn't have any brownish mica so I used cocoa powder for this one :)

Gorgeous soap Rhonda! Yum....banana coconut! I have a Coconut FO which is non-discolouring which I have yet to try because I just didn't really believe it would be. Now I think I will follow your lead and do one this week. Mine has pineapple notes too so will smell like a Pina Colada methinks

The cocoa line is awesome! I have heard that when using mica to create a line you must be very light handed with the sprinkling or the layers can separate. Nizzy says to use a small pot with a piece of pantyhose over the top to get it even and fine. Did you need to do something similar with the cocoa?

Tanya :)

Did you need to do something similar with the cocoa?

When I sprinkled it on I actually smoothed it around a bit with a spoon which mixed it in sort of with the bottom layer so there really wasn't any "dry" cocoa left.

I did do another layer this evening with blueberry pop mica, did it the same way so hopefully it holds together :D
